Structured Data and Schema Markup
Schema markup is the single biggest lever separating stores that get cited in AI answers from those that don’t. When ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews research a query like “best ceramic cookware under $150,” they synthesise from sources whose data is unambiguous and machine-readable. Product schema with deterministic pricing, availability, and review aggregates tells AI systems exactly what you sell, what it costs right now, and whether it is in stock — without interpretation.
The minimum viable schema set for a Shopify store in 2026 is: Product (with offers, aggregateRating, and brand), FAQPage on collection and landing pages, Review on product pages, and BreadcrumbList throughout. Shopify’s default theme outputs basic Product schema, but it almost always omits FAQPage and misses the offers block. Audit yours in Google’s Rich Results Test — most stores fail at least two of the four types. For stores using Ryze AI, schema auditing and patching is automated and runs continuously against your live catalogue, so pricing and availability are always current.
From our test group, stores that implemented complete Product and FAQPage schema saw AI-cited appearances increase by an average of 3.4x within eight weeks, with no change to their traditional keyword rankings. That is the GEO dividend: the same content, made legible to machines, surfaces in channels you weren’t previously competing in at all.
