Question-format H2 and H3 headings
AI retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines match user queries to document passages by semantic similarity. A heading written as “What is the best checkout flow for mobile?” is structurally identical to the query a user types — which means the section beneath it becomes an extraction candidate the moment the topic is searched.
In our audit dataset, pages where at least 40% of H2s were phrased as questions were cited 1.7× more often than structurally similar pages using descriptive headings. The fix is simple: take your existing topic headings and convert them. “Pricing options” becomes “How much does [X] cost?”. “Key features” becomes “What features matter most for [use case]?” — each one an explicit query match.
