Manual JSON-LD in theme.liquid
The manual method — inserting a JSON-LD script block directly into your theme.liquid file inside the <head> tag — gives you complete control. On Online Store 2.0 themes, the equivalent file is the head.liquid section. You navigate to Online Store, then Themes, then Actions, then Edit Code to access the file editor.
The key advantage is that you can deploy the OnlineStore subtype, include every recommended field, and write a description optimized specifically for how AI search engines extract brand identity. The critical flaw is maintenance: if you change your logo, phone number, or add a new social profile, nothing updates the schema automatically. In our test stores, 6 out of 8 manually implemented schemas had at least one stale field within 90 days.
If you go the manual route, validate your output immediately with Google’s Rich Results Test and set a calendar reminder to review the markup whenever you update brand assets.
