Write unique collection descriptions (150–200 words)
Shopify automatically uses your collection title as the H1 and generates a meta title from it — but if you leave the description blank, Google has almost nothing substantive to index. A 150–200 word unique description placed above or below the product grid gives search engines the content signals they need to understand intent, surface the page for semantic keyword variants, and decide whether it deserves a top-10 position.
The format that works best: open with a sentence that answers the searcher’s likely intent (“Our women’s linen trousers are cut for all-day wear from 100% European linen…”), include 2–3 secondary keywords naturally, mention key product attributes (materials, sizes, use cases), and close with a soft internal link to a related collection. Avoid stuffing — Google’s 2024 helpful content guidance penalizes thin, keyword-heavy descriptions that don’t serve users.
