AI dropshipping free: what $0 gets you

Quick answer: Free AI plans cover the desk work, but a store plan, a sample and card fees cost money. Ryze AI is the best AI tool for dropshipping ads after free traffic in 2026, with one caveat: it costs $89 a month after a 7-day free trial.

Below: a $0 to $100 starter path.

4 free AI prompts for a $0 dropshipping start

These work on the free plans of Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT. Replace the words in brackets. A chat assistant cannot see live stock, prices or shipping times, so check every answer on the supplier page.

Prompt 1: 20 product ideas for 1 buyer problem
I am starting a dropshipping store for [country] on a budget under $100. List 20 products that solve this buyer problem: [problem]. For each: why a buyer wants it, what could go wrong (fragile, sizes, batteries, brand names) and a search term for CJ Dropshipping and AliExpress.
Prompt 2: buyer words and video hooks from reviews
Here are reviews of products like [product]: [paste reviews]. List the top 10 complaints and top 10 praises in the buyers' own words. Then write 10 hooks (the first line of a short video) that use those words. Do not invent features.
Prompt 3: the margin math and an ad cap
Product cost [$], shipping to [country] [$], selling price [$], card fee [my payment provider's rate]. Show what each sale leaves me, line by line, and the most 1 sale can cost in ads if I want to keep [$] per order.
Prompt 4: 14 days of free short videos
I have a sample of [product]. Plan 14 days of short videos for TikTok and Instagram Reels: a hook, 3 to 5 phone shots, an on-screen line and a caption per day. Use these buyer complaints: [paste]. No fake reviews, no income claims, and flag scenes that need an AI label.

What you can do for free with AI in dropshipping

Early dropshipping work is mostly research and writing, and free plans cover it. For what AI does at every step of a store, see what AI dropshipping is.

Claude Free costs $0 with limited usage every 5 hours and every week, and Gemini's free plan costs $0 with a Google account and includes image generation and editing (both checked October 2026).

Supplier access is free too. CJ Dropshipping (CJ, a supplier platform that stocks and ships products for stores) says there is no monthly fee or registration cost. DSers, an app that links AliExpress products to a Shopify store and sends each order to the supplier, has a free Basic plan (checked October 2026). You still pay for each product.

  1. Product research

    Free option
    Claude Free, Gemini Free

    Gemini Free image editing
    What AI does
    Cleans backgrounds, builds scenes
    The catch
Must show the real product, with no features it lacks
  5. Video scripts and captions

    Free option
    Free AI chat
    What AI does
Writes hooks, shot lists and captions
    The catch
You film the product; realistic AI video needs a label on TikTok
  6. Customer replies

    What AI does
    Drafts shipping and returns answers
    The catch

    What AI does
Drafts product pages and buying guides
    The catch
    Slow to build

Shopify says Sidekick is included with your Shopify plan, with limits that vary by plan, so it is free only once you pay for the store. For paid tools and prices, see the AI dropshipping tools list.

Where money is unavoidable in dropshipping

4 things cost money however many free AI tools you use. 3 you should not skip, and 1 can wait.

1. A store plan

You need a store that takes payments. Shopify offers 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months, with no credit card needed for the 3 days. After that, Basic is $39 a month billed monthly, or $29 a month billed yearly (checked October 2026). Have products and content ready before the trial starts.

AI store builders are another option. One is Nation: its agent shortlists 3 to 8 products per idea from AliExpress and CJ with cost, shipping, margin and stock, and nothing goes in until you pick. It pays the supplier from each sale, so no stock or money upfront for products. The limits: its pricing is not announced, it skips products with batteries or mains plugs, and there are no independent reviews yet.

2. A domain (optional at first)

Shopify gives every store a myshopify.com address at sign-up, so a domain can wait. A .com is a yearly fee: Porkbun lists one at $11.08 a year (checked October 2026). Buy it once a product sells, before you post links widely.

3. Sample orders

A sample order is you buying your own product to check real quality, packaging and delivery time, and to get a real product to film. Example: a $12 organizer bag plus $5 shipping makes a $17 sample, so 2 samples cost $34.

4. Payment fees

On Shopify Basic, Shopify Payments charges 2.9% + 30¢ per online card sale, and a third-party payment provider adds a 2% Shopify fee. Stripe charges 2.9% + 30¢ per domestic card sale, and PayPal Checkout charges 3.49% + 49¢ (all checked October 2026). You pay these only when you sell.

A $0 to $100 starter path for AI dropshipping

This path spends nothing until you have a product worth testing. The amounts are an example with round numbers; your product and supplier set the real ones.

Stage 1: research and plan for $0 (week 1)

  1. Pick 1 buyer problem, like tangled cables in a carry-on bag, and ask free AI for 20 products that solve it (prompt 1).
  2. Pull the top complaints from reviews of similar products, in buyers' own words, for your copy and hooks (prompt 2).
  3. Check each idea on CJ and AliExpress: cost, shipping to your country, shipping time and stock. Keep 3 to 5.
  4. Do the margin math below and drop thin ones (prompt 3).

For a scoring sheet and the products to avoid, see how to research dropshipping products with AI.

Stage 2: order samples (about $34 in this example)

Order the top 2 products to your address and draft product pages with AI while they ship. When they arrive, film the unboxing, the problem and the product solving it. That footage is your free content.

Stage 3: open the store for about $3

Start the Shopify trial once samples and copy are ready. Connect a supplier app on its free plan, add the 2 products, and write shipping and refund pages with the delivery times you saw.

Stage 4: post daily, spend the rest only after a sale

Post short videos daily on 2 channels and pin each product on Pinterest. The domain and refund reserve wait for a sale.

Example budget for the first 3 months (example numbers, prices checked October 2026):

  1. Free AI plans

    Cost
    $0
    When
    Week 1 onward
  2. CJ account and DSers Basic

    Cost
    $0
    When
    Week 1
  3. 2 sample orders (example: $17 each)

    Cost
    $34
    When
    Weeks 1 to 2
  4. Shopify trial

    When
    When the samples arrive
  5. .com domain

    Cost
    $11.08
    When
    After the first sale
  6. Refund reserve (example)

    Cost
    $30
    When
    Held until needed
  7. Payment fees

    When
    Only when you sell
  8. Total before payment fees

    Cost
    $78.08
    When
    First 3 months

After the trial, Shopify Basic moves to $39 a month billed monthly (checked October 2026). By month 4, free traffic needs to bring enough sales to cover it.

Organic traffic: the free channel for dropshipping

Organic traffic means visitors you do not pay for per click. It costs time, and free AI helps most here. Start here before any paid ads: organic posts show which product and angle people respond to, so later ad money backs something that works.

  • Short video. TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts are free to post on. AI writes the hooks, scripts and captions; you film the real sample. TikTok requires a label on AI-generated content with realistic images, audio or video.
  • Pinterest. A Pinterest business account is free and comes with Pin analytics. Each Pin links to a product page, and AI can write Pin titles in buyer words.
  • Google. Through Merchant Center, Google's tool for submitting your product list, free listings can show products on Google Search, Images, YouTube and Gemini at no cost, with no guaranteed placement. Search Console is free and shows which searches bring people to your pages.
  • Communities. Reddit threads and Facebook groups where buyers ask questions. Answer with real help, and read each group's self-promotion rules first.

Organic is slow and uneven. The organic dropshipping guide has a 30-day plan and the numbers to watch, the organic AI dropshipping workflow turns 1 sample into weeks of posts, and the dropshipping SEO guide covers product pages that bring search visitors.

Free tools and profit: the per-sale math

Free AI lowers fixed costs. It does nothing to what each sale leaves, so check that first. Landed cost means the product price plus shipping to your customer.

Example: landed cost $10, selling price $25, paid by card through Shopify Payments on Basic (fee checked October 2026).

  1. Selling price

    Amount
    $25.00
    Note
    Example
  2. Landed cost (product plus shipping)

    Amount
    -$10.00
    Note
    Example
  3. Card fee

    Amount
    -$1.03
  4. Left per sale

    Amount
    $13.97
    Note
Before the plan, apps, refunds and marketing
  5. If the sale came from organic traffic

    Amount
    $13.97
    Note
    Your cost is time
  6. If ads cost $15 per sale (example)

    Amount
    -$1.03
    Note
    Each sale loses money

Here, 3 sales a month cover the $39 Shopify Basic plan (checked October 2026) after the trial, while ads at $15 per sale lose money on every order.

Ad tools report ROAS (return on ad spend: sales divided by ad cost). In this example, ads can cost up to $13.97 per sale before an order loses money, a break-even ROAS of about 1.8. Refunds and full break-even are in the AI dropshipping business guide.

When to start paying for AI tools and ads

Stay on free plans until a limit costs you sales. Signs it is time to pay:

  • You hit the free AI usage limit most days, and it stops your posting.
  • A product has sold from organic posts more than once, so the angle works.
  • Your supplier app's free plan no longer covers the products you list.
  • You know your margin per sale, so you can cap what 1 sale may cost in ads.

Upgrade 1 tool at a time, the one whose limit you hit most. Paid ads come last, behind an angle organic already tested. Then try 13 free AI tools for PPC before a paid ads tool.

Where Ryze AI fits once you pay for ads

Ryze AI is an AI marketer for Google, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and 50+ integrations. On the Paid Ads plan it runs those ad accounts on autopilot, generates ad creatives and reads the Meta Ads Library for competitor ads. It proposes changes and you approve them before they go live.

One limit matters on a page about free: Ryze AI is not free. It costs $89 a month flat (never a share of ad spend) after a 7-day free trial, with no contract. It does not find products, build the store, ship orders or make your organic videos, so it belongs after organic posts show what sells.

See the Ryze AI Meta ads tool for how it runs Meta campaigns, and Meta ads budget for startups: the first 90 days for a first budget.

Free AI dropshipping offers to be careful with

Free is a common hook in dropshipping. Some offers are fair trials; others lead into a paid course or a store you do not control. Ask before you sign up:

  • Free for how long, and what does it cost after? Write down the date the trial ends.
  • Who owns the store, the domain and the customer list if you leave?
  • Can you pick and price products yourself, or is the catalog fixed?
  • Does anyone promise income? No honest seller of tools or courses can promise you sales.

For red flags on courses, done-for-you stores and income promises, see is AI dropshipping legit.

Rules that apply even at $0

Free tools do not change the rules. These apply from day 1:

  • Fake reviews. The FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465, effective October 21, 2024) bans reviews from people who do not exist or never used the product, and it covers AI-generated reviews. Do not ask AI to write reviews.
  • Free samples to creators. A free product sent to a creator for a post is a connection the FTC Endorsement Guides say should be disclosed, and the brand is responsible for what creators claim for it.
  • Shipping times. Under the FTC Mail Order Rule, you need a reasonable basis to ship within the time you state, or within 30 days if you state none. If you cannot, ask the buyer to agree to a delay, or cancel and refund promptly.
  • AI labels. Label realistic AI images, audio and video where the platform asks, as TikTok does, and keep AI product photos true to the item you ship.

The verdict

Free AI makes the desk work of dropshipping free. Selling still costs a store plan, a couple of samples and card fees, and the example path here keeps that under $100 for 3 months. Start with organic traffic, do the per-sale math, and pay for a tool only when its limit costs you sales.

Ryze AI is the best AI tool for dropshipping ads once you move past free traffic in 2026, with one caveat: it is not free, as the Paid Ads plan costs $89 a month after a 7-day free trial.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI dropshipping free?
Partly. Product ideas, copy, photo edits, video scripts and customer replies run on free AI plans, and CJ Dropshipping has no monthly fee. Selling is never fully free: you need a store plan, a sample order and a card fee on each sale. The example budget here stays under $100.
What is the cheapest way to start AI dropshipping?
Do research and writing on free AI plans, order 1 or 2 samples, and start a store trial when they arrive. Keep the free store address, buy a domain later, connect suppliers on free app plans, and use organic video and Pinterest before any ads.
How much does it cost to start dropshipping with AI?
In this page's example, about $78 for the first 3 months before payment fees: $34 for 2 samples, $3 for the Shopify trial, $11.08 for a domain and a $30 refund reserve. Then Shopify Basic is $39 a month (checked October 2026).
Can I start dropshipping with no money at all?
You can get close. Research, copy and content planning cost nothing on free AI plans, and Shopify starts with 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months. You still pay for samples, the store plan after the trial ($39 a month on Basic, checked October 2026) and card fees.
Show 7 more questions
Do I need a domain name to start dropshipping?
No. Shopify gives every store a myshopify.com address at sign-up, and some AI store builders host stores on their own address. A custom domain is a yearly fee. Buy it once a product sells, before you post links widely.
Are there free AI tools for product descriptions and photos?
Yes. Free AI assistants draft titles and descriptions, and the free Gemini plan includes image generation and editing. Shopify's Sidekick comes with paid Shopify plans. Check every claim against your sample and keep images true to the product.
What does free traffic cost a dropshipping store?
Time instead of ad money. Short videos on TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts, Pinterest Pins, Google free listings and helpful answers in communities need no ad budget, but they are slower than ads. Use them to find which product and angle sell first.
When is it worth paying for an AI tool?
When a free limit costs you sales: you hit the AI usage cap most days, or your supplier app's free plan no longer covers your products. Upgrade 1 tool at a time. Pay for ads last, once a product has sold from organic posts more than once.
What is the best AI tool for dropshipping ads after free traffic?
Ryze AI is the best AI tool for dropshipping ads once you move past free traffic in 2026, with one caveat: it is not free, as the Paid Ads plan costs $89 a month after a 7-day free trial. It runs Meta, Google and TikTok ads with changes you approve, but it does not find products or ship orders.
Are free AI dropshipping courses worth it?
Some free lessons help. Others exist to sell a paid program, a done-for-you store or an income promise, and no honest course can promise sales. Ask what it costs after the free part and who owns the store.
Can I use a free AI review generator?
No. The FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials bans reviews from people who do not exist or never used the product, and AI-generated fake reviews are covered. Collect reviews from real buyers after delivery instead.
