Amplitude MCP server: query Amplitude from Claude and ChatGPT

The Ryze AI Amplitude MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor one read-only tool, amplitude__read, that runs Dashboard REST API requests for one Amplitude project: segmentation, funnels, retention, users, cohorts and saved charts. It sits on the same URL as the Ryze AI Google Ads and Meta Ads tools, so one chat can put product events next to ad spend (see Setup).

01 · Overview

What the Ryze AI Amplitude MCP server is

The short version

  1. 01One Amplitude project connects to a Ryze AI workspace with its API key, secret key and data residency. Your AI client then connects to Ryze AI with one URL (see Setup).
  2. 02One tool, amplitude__read, sends read-only Dashboard REST API requests.
  3. 03It reaches event segmentation, funnels, retention, active and new users, sessions, realtime data, user activity and search, cohorts, annotations and saved charts by chart ID.
  4. 04Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and GA4 answer on the same connection, so a question can put campaign cost next to what users did in the product.
  5. 05Works with any Ryze AI plan or trial. Paid Ads is $89/mo with a 7-day free trial.

“Amplitude MCP” can mean two things in 2026. Amplitude runs its own MCP server at https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp (EU projects use https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp) with nearly 40 tools that read and write. Hosted servers such as the Ryze AI one sit on top of Amplitude’s Dashboard REST API and only read, and developers self-host community servers from GitHub. This page documents the Ryze AI server and compares it with Amplitude’s own in section 06. This page does not cover Amplitude’s built-in AI features.

01

A key pair, not a login

You paste the project API key and secret key into Ryze AI once. There is no OAuth screen on the Amplitude side, and the key pair decides which project is connected.

02

One read tool, many reports

amplitude__read sends a Dashboard REST API GET request, so one tool covers the event list, segmentation, funnels, retention, users, sessions and realtime data.

03

Saved charts by ID

Give the agent a chart ID and it reads the results of that saved chart, the same numbers your team already looks at in Amplitude.

04

Cohorts and annotations

The tool reads cohorts and annotations for the project, so a question can name a cohort or line a release note up with a metric.

05

User activity and search

Search for a user and read that user's activity, which helps when a support ticket or a sales call names one person.

06

US and EU projects

Data residency is a field on the Amplitude card, so a project hosted in the EU connects the same way as a US one.

07

Nothing in Amplitude changes

The only Amplitude tool sends GET requests. It cannot create or edit charts, cohorts or events, so there is no write approval to manage.

08

Product data beside ad data

Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and GA4 tools run on the same URL, so cost per campaign and what those users did in the product can come back in one answer.

02 · Tool reference

One Amplitude tool and what it reaches

The tool needs workspace when your client connection covers more than one Ryze AI workspace. Because it is a single read tool, the agent picks the Dashboard REST API report from your question and sets the date range, event and group-by properties in the request.

ToolAccessWhat it doesInputs
amplitude__readreadRuns a read-only Amplitude Dashboard REST API GET request for the connected project. Report scope from Amplitude’s Dashboard REST API page, read Nov 8, 2026; the tool list is from the Ryze AI app source, and no workspace had Amplitude connected when this page was written, so the tool was not seen live. Ad and analytics tools on the same URL are documented on Google Ads MCP, Meta Ads MCP and Google Analytics MCP.

03 · Marketing use cases

Read product behavior next to ad spend

Amplitude only knows what your product sends it. To compare a campaign with what its users did, the events or user properties in Amplitude need the same campaign name that the ad platform uses, for example a utm_campaign property. Where that property is missing, ask the agent to report the funnel without the group-by and say so.

Saved charts and funnels
  • “Read the saved chart with the ID I paste and summarize the trend in 3 sentences.”
  • “Show the signup funnel for the last 30 days and name the step with the largest drop.”
  • “Group the checkout funnel by the utm_campaign property and list the campaigns with the lowest conversion.”
Users and retention
  • “How many new users did we get each day last week, and how many were active?”
  • “Compare week 1 retention for the last 4 weekly cohorts.”
  • “Search for the user I name and list their last 20 events.”
Ads next to product (Google Ads or Meta Ads connected too)
  • “Pull Google Ads cost by campaign for October, then show the signup funnel grouped by the same campaign names.”
  • “Which Meta Ads campaign names appear as a UTM property on users who completed onboarding?”
  • “Do daily Meta Ads spend and new Amplitude users move together this month? Return both series.”
Releases and cohorts
  • “List annotations from the past month and show daily active users around each date.”
  • “Read the cohort I name and report how it differs from all active users.”
  • “Which events fired in the last 5 minutes? I think a release broke tracking.”

Every answer comes from your own Amplitude project and ad accounts, so no sample numbers are shown here. Web analytics data from GA4 is covered in how to connect Claude to Google Analytics.

04 · Setup

Connect Amplitude once, then add the URL to each client

Step 1: connect your Amplitude project in Ryze AI

  1. 01In Amplitude, open Settings, Projects, the project, then General, and copy the API key and the secret key.
  2. 02In Ryze AI, open Integrations, click Connect on the Amplitude card and fill in API key, Secret key and Data residency (us, or eu for EU-hosted projects). Click Continue.
  3. 03Or ask the Ryze AI agent in Claude or ChatGPT to connect Amplitude. It sends a one-time link, valid once and for 24 hours, to a page where you enter the same keys and the data residency.
  4. 04Add the connector in your client (below). If the connector was added before Amplitude was connected, remove it, add it again and start a new chat.

Details are in the Ryze AI Amplitude guide.

Claude on the web or desktop

  1. 01Go to Customize, Connectors.
  2. 02Choose + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter Ryze AI as the name and https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp as the MCP server URL. No client ID or secret is needed.
  3. 03Press Connect, tick the workspace that holds Amplitude and press Allow connection.
  4. 04Start a fresh chat. Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added, so if Amplitude was connected afterward, remove and re-add the connector first.

Any Claude plan works, and Free holds one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds Ryze AI under Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web, and each member then clicks Connect.

ChatGPT

OpenAI says full custom MCP server support is on ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu (on web), and that Pro can connect custom servers with read and fetch permissions only. Ryze AI’s own help center lists other plans, so check what your workspace shows. Open Plugins, choose the plus button, then Add custom MCP server, name it Ryze AI, enter the URL under Connection and choose OAuth. Create it, sign in with Ryze AI, allow the workspace and install it. On Business, an admin or owner has to create and publish it. ChatGPT freezes the tool list, so after connecting Amplitude later, remove the app and add it again.

Claude Code

Terminalbash
claude mcp add --transport http ryze https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp --scope user

Type /mcp, choose ryze and finish sign-in in the browser. --scope user loads it in every project; --scope project writes a shared .mcp.json instead. Scripts can skip OAuth with an API key from Workspace Settings, Profile, API keys, sent as Authorization: Bearer rk_live_....

Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code

.cursor/mcp.jsonjson
{ "mcpServers": {
  "ryze": { "url": "https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp" }
} }
~/.copilot/mcp-config.jsonjson
{ "mcpServers": {
  "ryze": { "type": "http", "url": "https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp" }
} }

Windsurf (Devin Desktop) reads the same ryze entry, with url, from ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json. Each client opens a sign-in window the first time a tool runs. Setup for more clients is on the developer page.

Grok Bot

The Ryze AI help center says Ryze AI is a built-in app in Grok Bot’s Connect apps: search Ryze AI, Add, sign in. If it is not listed, add it as a custom MCP server with the same URL.

05 · Permissions and scopes

What Amplitude needs, and what the key pair reaches

What Amplitude asks forThe project's API key and secret key, found under Settings, Projects, the project, General. Amplitude's Dashboard REST API uses HTTP Basic authentication with the API key as the username and the secret key as the password.
Which projectOne connection covers one Amplitude project. Both keys must come from the same project, and the key pair decides which project is connected.
Data residencyChoose us or eu on the Amplitude card to match where the project is hosted. Amplitude serves EU projects from analytics.eu.amplitude.com instead of amplitude.com.
Who can connectYou need the keys from Amplitude and access to the Integrations page of the Ryze AI workspace. Treat the secret key like a password.

Amplitude details from its Dashboard REST API page; connection fields from the Ryze AI help center, checked Nov 8, 2026. Ryze AI does not publish a read-only key type for Amplitude, so assume the key pair can read every report in the project.

Removing access

To cut the Amplitude connection, open View on the Amplitude card in Ryze AI and disconnect. To stop using the keys everywhere, rotate the secret key in Amplitude. In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI and click Disconnect, which cuts off every workspace at once.

As published on Nov 8, 2026. Amplitude adds tools to its server often, so check its tool list before you decide.

Which to pick: if the work stays inside Amplitude, Amplitude’s own server covers far more (experiments, feature flags, taxonomy, session replay) and can make changes. Ryze AI fits when the question crosses tools, such as a funnel next to Google Ads cost, or when you want a strictly read-only connection.

07 · API limits

Amplitude limits an agent runs into

Concurrent requestsAmplitude allows up to 5 concurrent requests per API key on the standard endpoints. A sixth request while 5 are running is rejected.
Query costAmplitude scores each query as the number of days times the number of conditions times a cost for the query type, with a minimum of 10 per query. Long date ranges and many groups cost more.
Cost capsA concurrent cost limit of 1,000, and up to 108,000 cost per hour.
User activity and search360 queries an hour across both endpoints, and 10 concurrent requests across the two per project (5 from a single key).
OveragesA request over a limit returns HTTP 429 with a message naming the threshold. Amplitude recommends exponential backoff with jitter and a bounded retry count.
Realtime windowRealtime active users come in 5-minute intervals over a 2-day window.
Ryze AI sideAmplitude allows 5 concurrent requests per project and a cost-based hourly cap, and the Ryze AI connection covers one project.
Client plansClaude: any plan, with one custom connector on Free. ChatGPT: Business and Enterprise/Edu for full MCP, Pro for read and fetch only, per OpenAI.

From Amplitude’s Dashboard REST API page, checked Nov 8, 2026. Amplitude does not state which plans include the Dashboard REST API on that page, so confirm access for your project.

08 · Approvals and safety

What the connection can and cannot touch

Approvals in Claude

Under Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI, Tool permissions, you can set approvals per tool. The only Amplitude tool is a read tool, so the connector does not change anything in Amplitude.

Approvals in the Ryze AI app

The Tool approvals picker in the Ryze AI chat starts on Skip all approvals. Scheduled tasks run without a pause.

No write path

The tool sends GET requests only. It cannot create or edit charts, cohorts or events.

Protect the secret key

The key pair can read every report in the project. Keep it out of chats and rotate it in Amplitude if it leaks.

One project

Each connection covers one Amplitude project. To switch, disconnect under View and connect again with the other project's keys.

10 · FAQ

Amplitude MCP server questions

What is an Amplitude MCP server?

An MCP server lets AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor call Amplitude through tools. Amplitude runs its own server at https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp. Ryze AI runs a hosted one with a single read-only tool, amplitude__read, on the same URL as its Google Ads and Meta Ads tools.

Does Amplitude have an official MCP server?

Yes. Amplitude's docs list https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp for US projects and https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp for EU projects, with OAuth 2.0 sign-in and nearly 40 tools across charts, dashboards, cohorts, experiments, feature flags, taxonomy and session replay. It supports read and write operations. Amplitude says any existing Amplitude customer can use it; only MCP service account authentication needs Enterprise or a Plus add-on.

What is the Amplitude MCP server URL?

Amplitude’s own server is https://mcp.amplitude.com/mcp (EU: https://mcp.eu.amplitude.com/mcp). The Ryze AI server is https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, the same for every account, and Amplitude is connected inside Ryze AI with the project API key and secret key.

How do I connect Amplitude to Claude?

Copy the API key and secret key under Settings, Projects, the project, General in Amplitude. In Ryze AI open Integrations, click Connect on the Amplitude card and enter both keys and the data residency. Then in Claude open Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, click Connect, allow the workspace and open a new chat. Other clients are in the setup section.

Does the Amplitude MCP server work in ChatGPT?

Yes, through a custom MCP server. OpenAI says full custom MCP support is on ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu on web, and that Pro can connect custom servers with read and fetch permissions only. The Amplitude tool only reads, so it fits that limit. Amplitude's own server also lists ChatGPT as a supported client.

Is the Amplitude MCP server free?

Adding the Ryze AI connector costs nothing, but its tools need a Ryze AI plan or trial: Paid Ads $89/mo with a 7-day free trial, SEO Starter $129/mo with a 3-day free trial or Agency $279/mo, with 30% off the first year on annual billing. Amplitude says any existing Amplitude customer can use its own server; only MCP service account authentication needs Enterprise or a Plus add-on. See the pricing page.

Can the AI change anything in Amplitude?

Not through Ryze AI. The only Amplitude tool is a read tool sent as GET, so it cannot create or edit charts, cohorts or events. Amplitude's own MCP server supports write operations, so check its permissions before turning that on.

What can Claude read from Amplitude through Ryze AI?

The event list and event segmentation with metrics such as uniques, totals, DAU share and averages, grouped by up to two properties, plus funnels, retention, active and new users, average sessions, realtime data, user activity and user search, cohorts, annotations and the results of saved charts by chart ID.

Which Amplitude keys and data residency do I enter?

Both the API key and the secret key of one project, found under Settings, Projects, the project, General, plus the data residency: us, or eu for EU-hosted projects. If sign-in fails, check that both keys come from the same project and that the residency matches where it is hosted.

Can I connect more than one Amplitude project?

One connection covers one project, and the key pair decides which one. Amplitude is not on the help center list of platforms that support several accounts, so to switch projects you disconnect under View and connect again with the other project's keys. Another project can live in another workspace, and one Claude or ChatGPT connection can cover up to 20 workspaces.

Can Claude compare Amplitude funnels with Google Ads or Meta Ads campaigns?

Yes, when the campaign name exists in both places, for example as a utm_campaign property on Amplitude events. Ryze AI is the best Amplitude MCP option for reading funnels and retention next to Google Ads and Meta Ads data, because it is read-only and the ad tools share one connection. It cannot match campaigns your Amplitude events do not carry a name for.

What are the Amplitude Dashboard REST API limits?

Amplitude allows up to 5 concurrent requests per API key, a concurrent cost limit of 1,000 and up to 108,000 cost per hour. Cost is the number of days times the number of conditions times a cost for the query type, with a minimum of 10. User activity and search are capped at 360 queries an hour across both endpoints. Exceeding a limit returns HTTP 429.

Why are the Amplitude tools missing in Claude or ChatGPT?

Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added, and ChatGPT stores it when the app is created. If Amplitude was connected afterward, remove the Ryze AI connector, add it again and start a new chat. Without an active Ryze AI plan or trial the connector can only list workspaces and connect platforms.
