Shopify MCP Server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is how Claude, ChatGPT and coding tools call outside software. “Shopify MCP” covers several different servers: Shopify’s Dev MCP for people who build apps and themes, the UCP servers for shopping agents, Shopify’s own connectors for Claude and ChatGPT, and hosted servers such as the Ryze AI one, which read and edit a store’s admin data. This page documents the Ryze AI server. Section 07 sorts out the rest.

Every tool takes workspace (required when a connection covers several Ryze AI workspaces) and an optional connection_id to pick one store when you have several. A tool only reaches what the store’s access scopes allow, so the same query can work on one store and return “Access denied” on another.

Next to these five, the connection has helper tools: list_connections shows which stores are connected, get_workspaces lists your workspaces, and get_provider_docs returns Shopify Admin API notes the agent reads before it writes a query. The same URL serves the ad and analytics tools documented on Google Ads MCP, Meta Ads MCP and Google Analytics MCP.

Two parts: connect the store to Ryze AI once, then add the server URL to each AI client you use. Clients sign in with OAuth and show a consent screen where you choose which workspaces they can reach (all of them by default, up to 20 per connection).

Step 1: connect your store to Ryze AI

1. 01In Ryze AI open Integrations (left sidebar) and click Connect on the Shopify card.
2. 02Enter the store’s yourstore.myshopify.com domain. Use the .myshopify.com address, not your custom domain.
3. 03Approve the app in Shopify admin.
4. 04Optional: click View to choose which blog new articles go to and which article template they use.

Theme file edits, URL redirects and customer records need a custom app instead. The Ryze AI custom app guide lists the Dev Dashboard settings.

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

1. 01Open Settings, Connectors. It opens Customize, Connectors (direct link: claude.ai/customize/connectors).
2. 02Click +, then Add custom connector. Name: Ryze AI. MCP server URL: https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp. Click Continue.
3. 03Click Connect, pick the workspaces that hold your store and click Allow connection.
4. 04Open a new chat and ask about your store.

Works on every Claude plan; the Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise the Owner adds it once under Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web, and members click Connect.

ChatGPT

1. 01Open Settings, Apps, Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
2. 02Click Create app. Name: Ryze AI. MCP server URL: https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp. Pick Server URL, not Tunnel.
3. 03Authentication: OAuth. Tick the acknowledgment and click Create.
4. 04Click Sign in with Ryze AI, pick your workspaces and click Allow connection.

Claude Code

Run /mcp in Claude Code to finish the OAuth sign-in. --scope user makes the server available in every project. Scripts and your own agents can use an API key from Workspace Settings, Profile, API keys instead, sent as Authorization: Bearer rk_live_....

Save the file and approve the sign-in window the client opens. Windsurf takes serverUrl where Cursor takes url. The developer page also has an Add to Cursor link.

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/ · Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\. Restart Claude Desktop; the first tool call opens the sign-in page. The Settings, Connectors route above does the same without Node.

Grok Bot, Make, n8n and Zapier

Grok Bot lists Ryze AI as a built-in connector: open Connect Apps, search Ryze AI, click Add and sign in. Make, n8n and Zapier have no one-click app; point their MCP or HTTP MCP node at the server URL and authorize. If you connect Shopify after adding the connector anywhere, remove and re-add the connector and start a new chat, because Claude and ChatGPT keep the tool list from install time.

A scope you add to an app only takes effect after you release a new version, approve it in Shopify admin and reconnect.

Protected customer data

Shopify treats customer data as protected, and names, emails, phone numbers and addresses need a higher access level. An app has to request that access. Fields it is not approved for come back redacted, often inside an HTTP 200 response with an error such as This app is not approved to use the phoneNumber field. With Ryze AI, customer records need a custom app.

Which Shopify MCP is which

Storefront MCP at https://{shop}/api/mcp no longer has catalog or cart tools. Shopify moved catalog search to UCP (changelog posted Apr 22, 2026, effective May 30, 2026) and deprecated the cart tools on Jun 24, 2026, keeping them until Aug 31, 2026. How to choose: Shopify’s own connector fits if you only need store data in Claude or ChatGPT and want Shopify to block refunds and live theme edits. The Dev MCP and Shopify CLI fit if you write apps or themes. Composio (376 tools) and Zapier (38 actions) fit if you want named actions and already use those platforms.
