Best MCP for Shopify: 10 servers compared

Quick answer: Store owners need Admin API access; developers need Shopify's Dev MCP. Ryze AI is the best MCP for Shopify in 2026 for store owners who run ads, with one caveat: theme edits, redirects and customer data need a custom app.

Below: 10 servers, Shopify's official options, API limits and test prompts.

Rows 1 and 3 to 6 can change your store through MCP. Row 2 is for building on Shopify, rows 8 to 10 serve shoppers, and row 7 only reads.

How these Shopify MCP servers were compared

Each server was checked against its own docs, pricing page or GitHub repo on November 7, 2026. No client store data was used.

  • Who it is for: a merchant, a developer building on Shopify, or a team building an agent for shoppers.
  • Store access: the Admin API, the storefront, one customer's account, or only docs.
  • Writes and guardrails: what it can change and what stands between the agent and the live store.
  • Setup and upkeep: hosted login or custom app plus a local process; stars and last commit.

Shopify's official servers rank lower only because most serve developers or shoppers. For setup steps, read how to set up a Shopify MCP connection.

The 10 Shopify MCP servers, one by one

1. Ryze AI MCP

A hosted MCP server you add to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor as one connector URL. The store connects with its domain and one approval in the Shopify admin, or with your own custom app. The same connector covers Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, Search Console and TikTok. Disclosure: Ryze AI publishes this page.

Shopify tools

5: read (any Admin GraphQL query), write, delete (a separate tool), edit_content and search_content.

Guardrail

Write and delete tools can be set to Needs approval in Claude.

Setup

No API keys. Theme files, redirects and customer records need a custom app.

Price

A Ryze AI plan or trial; Paid Ads is $89 a month, 7-day free trial.

Setup steps and the tool list are on the Shopify MCP page; other platforms are on the developers page.

2. Shopify AI Toolkit and Dev MCP

Shopify's toolkit for AI coding tools. Its Dev MCP server runs locally without authentication, searches Shopify's docs and API schemas and validates GraphQL, Liquid, theme and extension code. It does not connect to a store; store tasks go through Shopify CLI, where store execute keeps mutations off unless you allow them.

Made by

Shopify. 221,140 npm downloads in the 30 days to November 6, 2026; the toolkit repo has 632 stars.

Works with

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and Antigravity CLI.

Writes

None through Dev MCP.

Price

Free. Published builds send usage events unless you opt out.

3. GeLi2001/shopify-mcp

The most-starred community server on GitHub (239 stars, MIT license, last commit April 5, 2026). It runs locally with npx and has 31 Admin GraphQL tools for products, customers, orders, metafields, inventory and tags. It takes Dev Dashboard client credentials and refreshes the 24-hour token, or a legacy static token.

Writes

Create, update and delete, plus order cancels and refunds.

Guardrail

None described in the README; use your client's tool permissions.

Setup

A Dev Dashboard app, Node.js 18 or later, one config entry.

Price

Free, open source.

4. Composio Shopify toolkit

A developer platform that gives agents many apps through one MCP gateway or SDK. Its Shopify toolkit lists 376 tools and 45 triggers, from inventory adjustments to refunds, with OAuth2 sign-in.

Writes

Yes, across products, orders, fulfillment and customers.

Guardrail

No built-in approval gate; the toolkit page advises an approval step in your prompt.

Setup

A Composio account plus your own Shopify OAuth app (client ID and secret).

Price

Hobby $0 with 100,000 tool calls a month; paid plans bill usage.

5. cob-shopify-mcp

An open-source server and CLI (18 stars, MIT, last commit November 1, 2026) with 62 built-in tools across products, orders, customers, inventory and analytics. Its 16 analytics tools use ShopifyQL, and every response carries Shopify's query cost.

Writes

Products, orders, draft orders, customers and inventory.

Guardrail

A read-only mode; the CLI confirms deletes.

Setup

Node.js 22 or later; token, client credentials or OAuth.

Price

Free, open source.

Servers 6 to 10: Zapier, Lemonado and Shopify's buyer-side servers

6. Zapier MCP

Zapier MCP turns Zapier's Shopify actions into tools. You choose the actions the assistant may run, such as creating a draft order, a customer or a blog entry, then add the endpoint to your AI tool.

Writes

Only the actions you enable.

Reads

Zapier searches, without raw Admin GraphQL.

Setup

A Zapier account and one endpoint.

Price

2 tasks per tool call; the Free plan has 100 tasks a month.

7. Lemonado

Lemonado is a hosted analytics workspace with an MCP server. It reads orders, refunds, products, inventory, customers and discount codes, next to ad data from other sources, and its FAQ says it leaves Shopify untouched.

Writes

None in Shopify.

Setup

Sign in with a staff account that sees orders and reports.

Price

MCP is listed on the Automate plan, $319 a month.

Trial

10 days with $150 in credits.

8. Storefront Catalog, Cart and Checkout MCP (Shopify)

Shopify's buyer-side servers on the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). On a store's /api/ucp/mcp endpoint an agent searches that store's catalog, builds a cart and turns it into a checkout. They replaced Storefront MCP, whose catalog tools were deprecated on April 22, 2026 and cart tools on June 24, 2026, then removed.

Who it is for

Developers building a shopping assistant for one store.

Store access

Public catalog, carts and checkouts; no admin data.

Auth

An agent profile; only token agents with permission complete purchases.

Price

No fee listed.

9. Global Catalog MCP (Shopify)

Global Catalog MCP searches products across all Shopify merchants with search_catalog, lookup_catalog and get_product, grouping offers from several merchants per product.

Who it is for

Comparison and recommendation agents.

Rate limit

5 requests a second per API client by default.

Store access

None of your own admin data.

Price

No fee listed.

10. Customer Accounts MCP (Shopify)

Customer Accounts MCP acts for one signed-in customer: order status, order details, returns and account preferences. Requests need an OAuth 2.0 token from the authorization code flow with PKCE.

Who it is for

Apps adding a signed-in customer assistant.

Requirements

A custom store domain and approved protected customer data access.

Store access

One customer's orders and account.

Price

No fee listed.

Older servers: pashpashpash/shopify-mcp-server (36 stars, last commit February 19, 2025) documents only a static token from a legacy custom app, and amir-bengherbi/shopify-mcp-server was last updated January 27, 2025. Custom apps created since January 1, 2026 are built in the Dev Dashboard, so check that a server supports client credentials.

A free server still costs time: someone creates the custom app, picks scopes and keeps Node.js and tokens working. Hosted servers trade that work for a subscription.

Shopify's official MCP servers and who each is for

Shopify documents several MCP servers, each for a different person. None of them exposes your store admin as MCP tools.

For admin work, Shopify's route is Shopify CLI: run store auth, then store execute with a GraphQL query, adding the allow-mutations flag only when you mean to change data.

Shopify Admin API limits every MCP server runs into

Every server calls the same Shopify APIs, so the same limits apply (API limits, GraphQL Admin rate limits):

  1. Rate, Standard plan

    Value
    100 points a second
What it means for an agent
Long catalog pulls take several calls
  2. Rate, Advanced Shopify

    Value
    200 points a second
What it means for an agent
    Twice the Standard rate
  3. Rate, Shopify Plus

    Value
    1,000 points a second
What it means for an agent
    Bulk edits finish faster
  4. Rate, Commerce Components

    Value
    2,000 points a second
What it means for an agent
    The highest listed rate
  5. One query

    Value
    1,000 points at most
What it means for an agent
    Request smaller pages
  6. Input arrays

    Value
    250 items
What it means for an agent
    Bulk edits go in batches
  7. Pagination

    Value
    25,000 objects
What it means for an agent
    Filter very large catalogs
  8. Order history

    Value
    60 days by default
What it means for an agent
    Older orders need read_all_orders

Limits apply per app and per store, and Shopify may lower them briefly, so a good server waits about one second and retries. Mutations cost 10 points each by default.

The REST Admin API has been legacy since October 1, 2024; new public apps must use GraphQL since April 1, 2025. Ryze AI, GeLi2001/shopify-mcp and cob-shopify-mcp use GraphQL; Composio still lists some tools on the legacy REST Admin API.

The 60-day order window trips up merchants most. If an assistant says your first orders were two months ago, check for read_all_orders before trusting the totals.

How to choose a Shopify MCP server

Start from who will use the agent and whether it should change anything.

You run a store and its ads

Ryze AI MCP

Orders and products next to ad accounts, writes held for approval. Ad-side picks: best MCP for Meta Ads, best MCP for Google Ads.

You build apps or themes

Shopify AI Toolkit and Dev MCP

Free, official and checked against current schemas.

You build a shopping agent

Storefront Catalog, Cart and Checkout MCP

Add Global Catalog MCP to shop across merchants, or use Shop MCP for catalog search, carts and Shop Pay checkout in one connection.

You want free and self-hosted

GeLi2001/shopify-mcp or cob-shopify-mcp

Both need a custom app and Node.js.

You wire many apps into one agent

Composio or Zapier MCP

Composio for developers, Zapier for existing Zapier teams.

You only want reports

Lemonado, or any server with read scopes only

Nothing in the store can change.

Using Claude? See how to connect Shopify with Claude. For GA4, see the best MCP for Google Analytics.

Prompts to test any Shopify MCP server

Run these on a development store or with read scopes first.

Catalog gaps (read only)
List my active products that have no SEO title or no meta description. Show the title, handle and missing field. Do not change anything.

Expect a table of products. A server without Admin API access cannot answer.

Order window check
Count orders created between [start date] and [end date], and tell me the date of the oldest order you can see. If it is about 60 days ago, say the window is cut off.

This shows whether the connection has read_all_orders.

Scope check
Which Admin API access scopes does this connection have? List what you cannot read or change, such as themes, redirects or customers.

You see the real permissions before you ask for edits.

Draft, then wait
Rewrite the description of [product handle] for [audience] in under 120 words. Show the old and new text and wait for my OK before saving.

With approvals on in your client, the write call waits for your click.

Store next to ads
For the last 30 days, list Shopify revenue by product next to Meta Ads and Google Ads spend on campaigns that send traffic to those products. Flag products with spend and no orders.

This needs one connector for the store and the ad accounts, or two servers in one chat. For GA4, see how to connect Claude to Google Analytics.

Access and safety checklist before you connect

  • Create the app in the Dev Dashboard. Custom apps created since January 1, 2026 live there; older ones stay in the Shopify admin.
  • Grant only needed scopes. Read scopes for reports, write_products for catalog edits, read_all_orders only for older orders.
  • Treat customer fields as sensitive. Names, emails, phone numbers and addresses are protected customer data.
  • Expect token refresh. Client credentials tokens expire after 24 hours.
  • Hold writes for approval in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and keep deletes in their own tool.
  • Know how to revoke: uninstall the app or rotate its credentials.

Ryze AI's default connection lets the agent edit product, collection, page and blog content and SEO fields; theme files, redirects and customer records need a custom app. More: Ryze AI for Shopify stores.

The verdict

Pick by who uses the agent: developers start with Shopify's AI Toolkit and Dev MCP, shopping-agent builders with the UCP servers, reporting teams with a read-only server. For a store owner who wants an assistant to change the store, weigh scopes, approvals and who maintains the server.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best MCP for Shopify?
For store owners who run ads, Ryze AI, which puts the store next to Google Ads, Meta Ads and GA4 in one connector; theme edits, redirects and customer data need a custom app. For app developers, Shopify's Dev MCP. For shopping agents, Shopify's UCP servers or Shop MCP.
Does Shopify have an official MCP server?
Yes, several. Dev MCP serves developers, the UCP servers serve shopping agents, Shop MCP lets any agent search Shopify Catalog and check out with Shop Pay, and Customer Accounts MCP serves signed-in customer assistants. None exposes your store admin as MCP tools; admin tasks go through Shopify CLI.
What is the Shopify Dev MCP server used for?
It lets an AI coding tool search Shopify's docs and API schemas and validate GraphQL, Liquid, theme and extension code. It runs locally and does not connect to a store.
What happened to Shopify Storefront MCP?
Its catalog tools were deprecated on April 22, 2026 and its cart tools on June 24, 2026, then removed. They moved to Storefront Catalog MCP and Cart MCP on the UCP endpoint, which needs an agent profile.
Show 9 more questions
Can an MCP server edit my Shopify store?
Some can. Ryze AI, GeLi2001/shopify-mcp, cob-shopify-mcp, Composio and Zapier MCP can create or update store data. Dev MCP, Lemonado and Global Catalog MCP cannot.
Do I need a custom app to connect Shopify to Claude?
For self-hosted servers, yes: a Dev Dashboard app and its client credentials. Ryze AI's default connection needs only the store domain and one approval; theme files, redirects and customer records still need a custom app.
Why can my AI only see 60 days of Shopify orders?
Shopify's read_orders scope covers orders from the last 60 days. The app also needs read_all_orders for older orders, or totals for longer periods come out too low.
What are the Shopify Admin API rate limits for MCP servers?
100 points a second on Standard, 200 on Advanced, 1,000 on Plus and 2,000 on Commerce Components, per app and store. One query can cost at most 1,000 points.
Is it safe to give Claude write access to Shopify?
Safer with three controls: grant only needed scopes, set write and delete tools to need approval in Claude, and test on a development store first.
Can one MCP server connect several Shopify stores?
Yes. In Ryze AI each store is its own connection, added from the Shopify card. Self-hosted servers usually run one process per store with its own credentials.
Which Shopify MCP servers work with ChatGPT?
Ryze AI works in ChatGPT on Plus, Pro or Business with Developer mode. Composio, Zapier MCP and Lemonado also list ChatGPT. Local servers suit coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor.
How much does a Shopify MCP server cost?
Official and GitHub servers list no fee. Composio has a free Hobby plan, Zapier MCP uses 2 tasks per call, Lemonado lists MCP on a $319 plan, and Ryze AI starts at $89 a month.
Which Ryze AI plan includes the Shopify connector?
Any active Ryze AI plan or trial: Paid Ads at $89 a month with a 7-day free trial, Agency at $279, or SEO Starter at $129 with a 3-day free trial. Annual billing saves 30% in the first year.
