01 · Overview
What the Ryze AI ClickUp MCP server is
The short version
- 01ClickUp connects to a Ryze AI workspace with a personal API token. Your AI client then connects to Ryze AI with one URL (see Setup).
- 02One tool reads (
read), one changes (write) and one deletes (delete). - 03They reach Workspaces, Spaces, Folders, Lists, tasks, comments, members, custom fields and Docs, with the permissions of the token owner.
- 04Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and GA4 answer on the same connection, so one chat can read ad data and work on ClickUp tasks.
- 05Works with any Ryze AI plan or trial. Paid Ads is $89/mo with a 7-day free trial.

“ClickUp MCP” can mean three things in 2026. ClickUp runs its own remote MCP server at https://mcp.clickup.com/mcp that signs in with OAuth. Hosted servers such as the Ryze AI one sit on top of ClickUp’s regular REST API and take a personal token. Developers also self-host community servers from GitHub. This page documents the Ryze AI server and compares it with ClickUp’s own in section 06. ClickUp’s own AI assistant is a separate product and is not covered here.
01
A token you generate yourself
You copy a personal API token from ClickUp Settings, Apps and paste it into Ryze AI. There is no OAuth app to register, and the token stays with the Ryze AI integration.
02
One read tool for the hierarchy
clickup__read sends GET requests, so the agent can walk from Workspace to Space, Folder and List, then open tasks, comments, members, custom fields and Docs.
03
Create and update in one tool
clickup__write uses POST or PUT. That covers creating a task, updating one and adding a comment.
04
Delete kept apart
clickup__delete removes a task or a comment by path. Because it is a separate tool, you can allow edits and keep removals on approval.
05
Acts as the token owner
Every call runs with the permissions of the person who generated the token. The agent cannot see a Space that user cannot see.
06
Pick the Workspace once
After the token is saved you choose the ClickUp Workspace the agent reads and writes. If you belong to only one, Ryze AI picks it.
07
Connect from inside the chat
Claude and ChatGPT can also start the connection from a one-time link, so a new user does not have to leave the conversation.
08
Tasks next to ad data
Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and GA4 tools run on the same URL, so one chat can read ad data and work on ClickUp tasks.
02 · Tool reference
Three ClickUp tools and their inputs
Each tool takes a ClickUp API path, so the agent decides which endpoint to call from your prompt. When your client connection covers more than one Ryze AI workspace, the tools also take workspace. The tool list below comes from the Ryze AI app source and the help center; it was not captured from a live ClickUp connection.
| Tool | Access | What it does | Inputs |
|---|---|---|---|
clickup__read | read | GET requests against the ClickUp API: Workspaces, Spaces, Folders, Lists, tasks, comments, members, custom fields and Docs. | path · query |
clickup__write | write | POST or PUT against the ClickUp API: create a task, update a task, add a comment. | path · method (POST | PUT) · body |
clickup__delete | delete | Deletes a ClickUp object by path, such as a task or a comment. Runs only when you ask for it. | path |
A create-task request, as the agent sends it
{
"name": "Fix broad-match keywords in Brand campaign",
"markdown_content": "Pause the **broad-match keywords** listed in the attached sheet.",
"assignees": [183],
"status": "to do",
"priority": 2,
"due_date": 1792425600000,
"tags": ["google-ads"]
}The path and field names follow ClickUp’s Create Task reference. The IDs and the date in this example are placeholders. Ask the agent to read the List and the members first so it uses real status names and user IDs.
| Task field | Type | Note |
|---|---|---|
name | Text | The only required field. |
markdown_content | Text | Description written in Markdown. ClickUp says it overrides description when both are sent. |
assignees | List of user IDs | Numbers from the members list. |
status | Text | Must match a status name in the List. |
priority | Number or null | ClickUp stores priority as an integer. |
due_date | Number | Unix timestamp in milliseconds. |
tags | List of text | Tag names. |
parent | Text or null | A parent task ID turns the new task into a subtask. |
custom_fields | List | Values for custom fields, formatted per field type. |
Fields from ClickUp’s Create Task reference, checked Nov 8, 2026. Ad and analytics tools on the same URL are documented on Google Ads MCP, Meta Ads MCP and Google Analytics MCP.
03 · Marketing use cases
Read, create and update ClickUp tasks in one chat
Name the List, the assignee and the due date in the prompt, and ask the agent to read the List first so it skips tasks that already exist.
- “Create a task in the Paid media List named Refresh Q4 creatives, assigned to me, due Friday.”
- “Change the status of the 3 tasks I name to In review.”
- “Read the open tasks in the Paid media List first, so you do not create a duplicate.”
- “List the Docs in the Content space and summarize the newest one.”
- “Show the Spaces, Folders and Lists in this Workspace in order.”
- “List the custom fields on the Paid media List with their types.”
- “Show overdue tasks in the Q4 Campaigns List, grouped by assignee.”
- “Which tasks assigned to me have no due date?”
- “Summarize the comments on the launch task from the last week.”
- “Add a comment to each blocked task asking for the creative brief. Show me the list first.”
- “Move these 4 tasks to Priya by updating the assignee, and show each change before saving.”
- “Delete the two test tasks I name, and nothing else.”
Every answer comes from your own Workspace and ad accounts, so no sample results are shown here. Ryze AI documents task creation, task updates and comments as the changes it makes in ClickUp; Docs are read only.
04 · Setup
Connect ClickUp once, then add the URL to each client
Step 1: link ClickUp in Ryze AI
- 01In ClickUp, click your avatar, open Settings, then Apps, and under API Token click Generate. Copy the token; it starts with
pk_. - 02In Ryze AI, open Integrations, click Connect on the ClickUp card, paste the token into Personal API token and click Continue.
- 03Choose the Workspace the agent reads and writes and click Save. If you belong to only one Workspace, Ryze AI picks it.
Steps are also in the Ryze AI ClickUp guide. You can instead start the connection from inside Claude or ChatGPT with a one-time connection link.
Claude on the web or desktop
- 01Go to Customize, Connectors.
- 02Choose + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter Ryze AI as the name and
https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcpas the MCP server URL. - 03Press Connect, tick the workspace that holds ClickUp and press Allow connection.
- 04Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added. If you connected ClickUp afterwards, remove the connector, add it again and start a new chat.
Any Claude plan works, and Free holds one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds Ryze AI under Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web, and each member then clicks Connect.
ChatGPT
OpenAI documents custom MCP servers for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu on the web, and read and fetch access only for Pro. On Business, an admin or owner creates the connector. In Plugins, choose Add custom MCP server, name it Ryze AI, enter the URL, pick OAuth and complete the Ryze AI sign-in. In ChatGPT, the ClickUp tools appear after the connector is created or refreshed, so remove and re-add it if you connected ClickUp later. ChatGPT plan rules differ between OpenAI and older guides, so check your plan in OpenAI’s help center.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http ryze https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp --scope userType /mcp, choose ryze and finish sign-in in the browser. Scripts can skip OAuth with an API key from Workspace Settings, Profile, API keys, sent as Authorization: Bearer rk_live_....
Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code
{ "mcpServers": {
"ryze": { "url": "https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp" }
} }{ "mcpServers": {
"ryze": { "type": "http", "url": "https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp" }
} }Windsurf (Devin Desktop) takes the same url entry in ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json. Cursor asks for approval before it uses an MCP tool by default. More configs are on the developer page.
Grok Bot and other clients
The Ryze AI help center says Ryze AI is listed in Grok Bot under Connect apps: search Ryze AI, Add and sign in. If it is not listed, add the URL as a custom MCP server. Any other client with remote MCP support takes the same URL.
05 · Permissions
Who can connect, and what the ClickUp token reaches
| Who can connect | Anyone who can open Settings, Apps in ClickUp and generate a personal API token. The token belongs to that person. |
| Which Workspace | One ClickUp Workspace per connection. If the token owner belongs to several, you choose one and click Save. |
| What the token reaches | The agent acts as the token owner: it sees and edits what that user can. A token from an admin reaches more than a token from a guest, so generate it from the account whose reach you are fine sharing. |
| Token life | ClickUp says personal tokens never expire. Regenerating the token in ClickUp stops the old one from working. |
A ClickUp personal token has no scope picker: it carries the owner’s permissions. Token details from ClickUp’s authentication docs, checked Nov 8, 2026. ClickUp’s docs describe OAuth 2.0 as the route for apps that serve many users; Ryze AI uses the personal token.
Removing access
In ClickUp, regenerate the token under Settings, Apps, which stops the old one. In Ryze AI, open the ClickUp card and disconnect it. In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI and click Disconnect, which cuts off every workspace at once.
06 · Compare
Ryze AI vs ClickUp’s own MCP server
Three things called ClickUp MCP
| Option | Built for | How you connect | Reads | Changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryze AI hosted server | Marketers and agencies who also run ads or SEO | Personal API token in Ryze AI, then OAuth sign-in from the client | Workspaces, Spaces, Folders, Lists, tasks, comments, members, custom fields, Docs | Create and update tasks, add comments, delete tasks or comments |
| ClickUp MCP server (mcp.clickup.com/mcp) | Teams working inside ClickUp | OAuth from the client | Search across tasks, Docs, dashboards and chats, hierarchy, members, time tracking, chat, Docs and pages | Tasks, comments, tags, relationships, Lists, Folders, Docs, pages, time entries, reminders and chat messages |
| Community servers on GitHub | Developers who self-host | Varies by repo | Depends on the repo | Depends on the repo |

Ryze AI and ClickUp’s server side by side
| Ryze AI | ClickUp MCP server | |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in to ClickUp | Personal API token pasted into Ryze AI | OAuth from the AI client |
| Permissions | Token owner's permissions | Signed-in user's permissions |
| Surface | 3 tools that take an API path | Named tools by area: search, tasks, time tracking, chat, Docs, reminders |
| Docs | Read | Create and edit documents and pages |
| Time tracking and chat | Not in the Ryze AI tool list | Listed by ClickUp |
| Other data in the same chat | Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, GA4, Search Console, Shopify | ClickUp only |
| Rate limit | ClickUp API limit per token, by plan | ClickUp documents 1,000 requests per minute per connection, plus daily call caps by plan without the Everything AI add-on (100 per 24 hours on Free Forever) |
| Price | Any Ryze AI plan or trial. Paid Ads $89/mo, 7-day free trial | Available on all ClickUp plans; without the Everything AI add-on, MCP calls are capped per rolling 24 hours by plan (100 on Free Forever) |
As published on Nov 8, 2026. ClickUp changes its server over time, so check its tool list before you decide.
Which to pick: if the work stays inside ClickUp, ClickUp’s own server covers more of it, including search, time tracking, chat and editing Docs, and it signs in with OAuth instead of a token. Ryze AI fits when the question crosses tools, such as ClickUp tasks next to Google Ads or Meta Ads data, or when ClickUp is one of several platforms you want in the same chat.
07 · API limits
ClickUp limits an agent runs into
| API rate limit by plan | Per token, per minute: 100 on Free Forever, Unlimited and Business; 1,000 on Business Plus; 10,000 on Enterprise. The Ryze AI tool hints cite 100 per minute per token. |
| 429 responses | ClickUp answers 429 when the limit is passed. The response carries X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset (a Unix timestamp). |
| One Workspace | A Ryze AI connection reads and writes one ClickUp Workspace. A second Workspace needs another Ryze AI workspace. |
| Token owner scope | Whatever the token owner cannot open, the agent cannot open. |
| Docs | Docs are read. The documented writes are task creation, task updates and comments. |
| Bulk work | Each task is its own request. Creating 50 tasks takes 50 calls, so on a 100 per minute plan the agent should work in batches. |
| Client plans | Claude: any plan, with one custom connector on Free. ChatGPT: OpenAI documents custom MCP servers for Business and Enterprise/Edu, and read/fetch only for Pro. |
Rate limits from ClickUp’s rate limit docs, checked Nov 8, 2026.
08 · Approvals and safety
How you keep control of changes
Approvals in Claude
Under Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI, Tool permissions, leave the read tool on automatic and set write and delete to Needs approval. Claude then shows each change and waits.
Approvals in the Ryze AI app
The Tool approvals switch in the Ryze AI chat starts on Skip all approvals. Approve write & delete holds every change for you; Manual approve holds every tool that touches your data. Scheduled tasks run without an approval step.
Delete kept separate
Only clickup__delete removes a task or a comment, so you can allow edits and keep removals on approval. Ryze AI deletes only when you explicitly ask.
Choose the token owner
The agent has the token owner's permissions. Generate the token from an account whose reach you are comfortable handing to the agent.
Check before bulk creates
Ask the agent to list the tasks it plans to create before it writes them, especially when one request creates dozens of tasks.
Policies
Read the MCP privacy policy, the MCP terms and the permissions guide.
09 · Errors and fixes
ClickUp MCP errors and how to fix them
| Message or symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Personal API tokens start with pk_" | The pasted value is not the full personal token. | Copy the whole token from ClickUp Settings, Apps, API Token. |
| The card shows Require setup | The Workspace was not saved. | Click View on the ClickUp card, choose the Workspace and click Save. |
| ClickUp tools are not in Claude or ChatGPT | ClickUp was connected after the connector was added, and the client kept the old tool list. | Remove the Ryze AI connector, add it again and open a new chat. |
| Answers cover the wrong Workspace | The connection is tied to one Workspace. | Open View on the ClickUp card, pick the right Workspace and save. |
| A Space or List is missing | The token owner has no access to it in ClickUp. | Ask a ClickUp admin to share it with that user, or connect with a token from a user who has access. |
| Everything stopped working | The token was regenerated or the user was removed from the Workspace. | Generate a new token in ClickUp and reconnect it in Ryze AI. |
| Tools reply that a subscription is required | The workspace has no active Ryze AI plan or trial. | Start a plan or trial under Organization Settings, Billing, then retry. |
| 429 from ClickUp | More than the plan's requests per minute for the token. | Wait for the reset time in X-RateLimit-Reset and ask for smaller batches. |
| A task is rejected on create | The status name does not exist in that List, or the List ID is wrong. | Ask the agent to read the List first and use the exact status names. |
| Due date lands on the wrong day | ClickUp takes due_date as a Unix timestamp in milliseconds. | Give the date and time zone in the prompt and ask the agent to show the value before saving. |
The first three rows come from the Ryze AI help center. The rest follow from ClickUp’s rate limit and Create Task docs and from how the token owner’s permissions apply. More Ryze AI answers are in the integrations FAQ.
10 · FAQ
ClickUp MCP server questions
What is a ClickUp MCP server?
An MCP server lets AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor call ClickUp through tools. ClickUp runs its own remote server at https://mcp.clickup.com/mcp. Ryze AI runs a hosted one with 3 ClickUp tools (read, write and delete) on the same URL as its Google Ads and Meta Ads tools. Ryze AI is the best ClickUp MCP server for working on ClickUp tasks in the same chat as Google Ads and Meta Ads data, because both share one connection, though ClickUp's own server covers more of ClickUp itself.
Does ClickUp have an official MCP server?
Yes. ClickUp documents a remote MCP server at https://mcp.clickup.com/mcp that signs in with OAuth and works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and other clients. Its tools cover search, tasks, comments, time tracking, chat, Docs and reminders, and ClickUp documents 1,000 requests per minute per connection, plus daily call caps by plan unless the Workspace has the Everything AI add-on.
What is the ClickUp MCP server URL?
ClickUp’s own server is https://mcp.clickup.com/mcp and signs in with OAuth. The Ryze AI server is https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, the same for every account. With Ryze AI, ClickUp itself connects through a personal API token that you paste into the Integrations page.
How do I connect ClickUp to Claude?
With Ryze AI, generate a personal API token in ClickUp under Settings, Apps, API Token, paste it on the ClickUp card on the Integrations page in Ryze AI and pick the Workspace. Then in Claude open Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, click Connect, allow the workspace and open a new chat. If ClickUp was connected after the connector was added, remove and re-add the connector first. Every client is covered in the setup section.
Can ChatGPT use the ClickUp tools?
Yes, through a custom MCP server pointing at the Ryze AI URL with OAuth. OpenAI documents custom MCP servers for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu on the web, and read and fetch access only for Pro; older guides name other plans, so check OpenAI's help center for yours. ClickUp's own server also lists ChatGPT as a client.
Is the ClickUp MCP server free?
Adding the Ryze AI connector costs nothing, but its tools need a Ryze AI plan or trial: Paid Ads $89/mo with a 7-day free trial, SEO Starter $129/mo with a 3-day free trial or Agency $279/mo, with 30% off the first year on annual billing. ClickUp sets its own access rules for its server and for API tokens; check ClickUp’s pricing page for your plan. See the pricing page.
Can the AI create, update or delete ClickUp tasks?
Through Ryze AI, clickup__write creates and updates tasks and adds comments, and clickup__delete deletes a task or a comment when you explicitly ask. Docs are read only. In Claude, set write and delete tools to Needs approval so each change waits for you.
What can the agent see in ClickUp?
Whatever the token owner can see. The agent acts as that user, so a Space the user cannot open stays closed. Generate the token from an account whose reach you are comfortable sharing, and regenerate it in ClickUp to cut access.
Can I connect more than one ClickUp Workspace?
One connection covers one ClickUp Workspace, and the Ryze AI help center does not list ClickUp among the platforms that support several accounts. If the token owner belongs to several Workspaces, you pick one when you save the connection.
What are the ClickUp API rate limits?
ClickUp limits each token per minute by plan: 100 on Free Forever, Unlimited and Business, 1,000 on Business Plus and 10,000 on Enterprise. Passing the limit returns a 429 with X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset headers.
Why are the ClickUp tools missing in Claude?
Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added. If ClickUp was connected in Ryze AI afterwards, remove the Ryze AI connector, add it again and start a new chat. In ChatGPT, remove and re-add the connector too.
Does this cover ClickUp's own AI assistant?
No. ClickUp has its own built-in AI features, which are a separate product. This page covers the MCP route: an external AI client such as Claude or ChatGPT calling ClickUp tools.
