01 · Overview
What the Ryze AI Contentful MCP server is
The short version
- 01Each Content Plan article becomes one entry of the blog post content type you choose, and the agent reads and manages content in the space through the Contentful Content Management API (CMA).
- 02You save a CMA personal access token, the Space ID and an optional environment once in Ryze AI. Your AI client then connects to Ryze AI with one URL (see Setup).
- 03One tool reads (
contentful__read), one writes (contentful__write) and one removes (contentful__delete). - 04The ads, analytics and Search Console tools answer on the same connection, so a chat can look at traffic and then draft or publish the entry.
- 05Works with any Ryze AI plan or trial. SEO Starter is $129/mo with a 3-day free trial.

“Contentful MCP” can mean three things in 2026. Contentful hosts a remote server at https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp that signs each user in with OAuth, publishes an open-source local server as @contentful/mcp-server that runs with a personal access token, and Ryze AI runs a hosted server whose Contentful tools exist mainly to publish and manage blog content. This page documents the Ryze AI one and compares the three in section 06.
01
Token saved once
You paste a CMA personal access token, the Space ID and an optional environment into the Contentful card in Ryze AI. The AI client never sees the token; it signs in to Ryze AI only.
02
One entry per article
Each Content Plan article is published as one entry of the content type you choose, and the Blog URL you enter ties the entry to its public address.
03
Read the whole space
contentful__read runs a read-only CMA request against the connected environment, so the agent can open entries, content types, assets, locales and tags.
04
Drafts before publishing
contentful__write creates draft entries, replaces entry fields and publishes entries or assets, so a prompt can stop at the draft and wait for you.
05
Removal in its own tool
contentful__delete unpublishes an entry or deletes a draft entry. It is a separate tool, so edits can run while removals wait for approval.
06
Connect from the chat
Contentful can also be connected from inside Claude or ChatGPT with a one-time connection link, without opening the Integrations page first.
07
Switch the destination
If articles already publish elsewhere, Ryze AI asks whether to publish to Contentful instead. You can switch new articles or keep the current destination.
08
Publishing mode
Under SEO, Preferences, Publishing, Automatic (the default) publishes articles as they are ready and Manual holds them for you.
02 · Tool reference
Three Contentful tools and what they cover
Every tool works on the one space and environment saved in Ryze AI. The reader and the writer both go through the Content Management API, so what an agent can reach depends on the role of the token’s owner. The tool names come from the Ryze AI source; Contentful is not connected in any Ryze AI workspace we could open, so the list was not seen live. Treat the table as the documented list and confirm it in your client after you connect.
| Tool | Access | What it does | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|
contentful__read | read | Runs a read-only Content Management API request against the connected space environment, such as entries, content types, assets, locales and tags. | GET requests on entries, content types, assets, locales, tags |
contentful__write | write | Creates draft entries, replaces entry fields, and publishes entries or assets through the Content Management API. | New drafts, field replacement, publishing entries and assets |
contentful__delete | delete | Unpublishes an entry or deletes a draft entry through the Content Management API. | Unpublish an entry, delete a draft entry |
What the tools leave out
The Ryze AI list has no content modeling, release or environment tools, so the agent cannot create a content type or a locale. The environment needs a blog post content type before Ryze AI can publish. Contentful’s own servers list those extra categories; see the comparison. Ad and analytics tools on the same URL are documented on Search Console MCP, Google Ads MCP and Google Analytics MCP.
03 · Use cases
Publish, audit and clean up a Contentful blog
A Content Plan article is a title, a body and the fields your blog post content type defines. Ryze AI writes the entry, links it with the Blog URL you entered and, in Automatic publishing mode, publishes it. The prompts below cover the chat side: checking what the space holds, staying at draft, and removing what should go.
- “List the entries of our blog post content type that are still drafts, with their titles.”
- “Which blog post entries have an empty SEO description field? Do not change anything.”
- “Show the fields of the blog post content type and tell me which ones are required.”
- “Create a draft blog post entry from the title and body I paste.”
- “List the blog post entries published in the last 7 days with their slugs.”
- “Publish the draft entry for the article I name, then tell me what the Blog URL should be.”
- “Which assets in the space are not published yet?”
- “List the locales in this environment and tell me which one is the default.”
- “Publish the asset I name, then confirm its status.”
- “Replace the title field on the entry I name and show the change before saving.”
- “Unpublish the entry I name and keep it as a draft.”
- “Delete the draft entries I confirm one by one.”
Every answer comes from your own space, so no sample output is shown here. Search Console tools on the same URL have a walk-through in how to connect Claude to Search Console.
04 · Setup
Connect Contentful once, then add the URL to each client
Step 1: connect Contentful in Ryze AI
- 01In Contentful, copy the Space ID from Settings, General settings.
- 02Open Settings, CMA tokens, Create personal access token and copy the token. Use an account that can publish entries in the space.
- 03In Ryze AI open Integrations and click Connect on the Contentful card.
- 04Enter the Space ID, the token, an optional environment and the Blog URL (starting with https://), then click Continue.
- 05Choose the content type your blog posts use and click Save.
- 06If articles already publish elsewhere, choose Publish to Contentful to switch new articles, or keep the current destination.
| Field | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Space ID | Copied from Settings, General settings in Contentful. |
| CMA personal access token | Starts with CFPAT-. Created under Settings, CMA tokens, Create personal access token. |
| Environment | Optional. Defaults to master. |
| Blog URL | The public address of your blog, starting with https://. |
| Content type | Chosen after Continue: the content type your blog posts use. The environment needs one before Ryze AI can publish. |
Screens for each step are in the Ryze AI Contentful guide. Contentful can also be connected from inside Claude or ChatGPT with a one-time connection link; the link is refused while the workspace already has a Contentful connection.
The publishing flow, and the switch prompt
After the content type is saved, every article from the Content Plan is published as one entry of that type. Publishing mode under SEO, Preferences, Publishing decides the pace: Automatic (the default) or Manual. When another destination is active, such as another CMS, Ryze AI asks whether to switch to Contentful. Choose Publish to Contentful to send new articles there, or keep the current destination and nothing moves. An entry is invisible on your site until it is published, and your front end has to render it.
Step 2: add the connector in Claude
- 01Go to Customize, Connectors.
- 02Choose + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter Ryze AI as the name and
https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcpas the remote MCP server URL, then click Continue. - 03Review the authentication settings Claude detected and click Continue. Do not choose No sign in: the server needs OAuth.
- 04Click Add, then Connect. Sign in to Ryze AI, choose the workspace that holds Contentful and click Allow connection.
- 05Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added. If you connect Contentful afterwards, remove the connector, add it again and start a new chat.
Custom connectors are available on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free allows one. On Team an Owner adds Ryze AI first, and each member then clicks Connect.
Step 2: add the connector in ChatGPT
OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu on the web, where only admins and owners can create them on Business; Pro can connect with read and fetch permissions only. Plan rules differ between OpenAI and older guides, so check your workspace.
- 01Open Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), select the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server.
- 02Name it Ryze AI, enter
https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcpunder Connection and choose OAuth. - 03Accept the risk warning, select Create as a plugin and review the tools it found.
- 04Sign in to Ryze AI, choose the workspace and click Allow connection, install the plugin and start a new conversation. Type @ and pick Ryze AI.
Writes can ask for confirmation, and custom MCP servers cannot be connected from the mobile apps (OpenAI).
Step 2: add the connector in Cursor
{ "mcpServers": {
"ryze": { "url": "https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp" }
} }Save the file in ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project or .cursor/mcp.json for one. Cursor runs OAuth with PKCE, so sign in on the Ryze AI page and click Allow connection. Cursor asks for approval before it uses MCP tools by default. The developer page also has an Add to Cursor link.
05 · Permissions
Who can connect, and what the token reaches
| Who can connect | Anyone who can create a CMA personal access token in Contentful and open the Integrations page in Ryze AI. The token has to come from an account that can publish entries in the space. |
| What the token reaches | The token acts with its owner's role. If that account cannot publish in the space, entries are not published. Create it with an account whose reach you are comfortable handing to the agent. |
| Which space | One Contentful connection per Ryze AI workspace, tied to one space and one environment (default master). To switch, click View, disconnect with the trash icon and connect again. |
Removing access
In Ryze AI, open View on the Contentful card and use the trash icon. In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI and remove the connector, which cuts off every workspace at once. To end the token itself, revoke it in Contentful where CMA tokens are managed; Contentful’s own token page was not reachable on Nov 8, 2026, so follow its current steps.
06 · Compare
Ryze AI vs Contentful’s own MCP servers
Three things called Contentful MCP
| Option | Built for | How you connect | Content reached | Changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryze AI hosted server | Teams that publish blog content to Contentful and want it driven from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor | CMA token saved in Ryze AI, then OAuth sign-in to Ryze AI from the client | Entries, content types, assets, locales, tags | Draft, replace fields, publish; unpublish, delete drafts |
| Contentful remote MCP server (mcp.contentful.com/mcp) | Teams that want each person on their own Contentful identity | OAuth 2.1 through Contentful, plus the Contentful MCP app installed per environment | Content, content models, assets, locales, releases, tags, AI Actions | Create, update, publish, delete across the same categories |
| Contentful local MCP server (@contentful/mcp-server) | Developers, scripts and CI | CMA personal access token in environment variables, run with npx | The same core toolset as the remote server | All calls run as the token owner |
Contentful says both of its servers expose the same core toolset and differ in authentication and access gating. The remote server needs the Contentful MCP app installed in each space and environment you use. Sources: contentful.com MCP server documentation and the contentful-mcp-server repository (MIT license), checked Nov 8, 2026.
Side by side
| Ryze AI | Contentful remote server | Contentful local server | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Endpoint | https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp | https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp (EU: mcp.eu.contentful.com/mcp) | Runs on your machine through npx |
| Sign-in | OAuth to Ryze AI; the CMA token stays in Ryze AI | OAuth 2.1, each user signs in to Contentful | CMA personal access token in environment variables |
| Permission gating | The token owner's role, plus approvals set in the client | The user's own permissions plus a per-environment allow-list in the Contentful MCP app | Whatever the token can do; an optional PROTECTED_ENVIRONMENTS list blocks writes |
| Tools | 3 (read, write, delete) | More than 60 tools in the same toolset, gated by category | More than 60 tools listed in the repository |
| Content modeling | Not in the Ryze AI tool list | Content types, locales, environments and releases | Content types, locales, environments and releases |
| Other data in the same chat | Ads, analytics and Search Console tools on the same URL | Contentful only | Contentful only |
| Price | Any Ryze AI plan or trial. SEO Starter $129/mo, 3-day free trial | Not stated on the page opened | Open source, MIT license |
As published on Nov 8, 2026. Contentful adds tools often, so check its tool list before you decide.
Which to pick: if you need content modeling, releases, locale or environment changes, or each editor on their own Contentful identity, Contentful’s remote server covers more. If you script or run CI, the local server fits. Ryze AI fits when the job is publishing Content Plan articles to a blog and the same chat also needs Search Console, ads or analytics data, with one saved token instead of a per-person sign-in.
07 · API limits
Contentful limits an agent runs into
| CMA request rate | 7 requests per second per space on Free plans and 10 per second on paid plans (Contentful technical limits). Other Contentful APIs have separate rates. |
| Request size | 1 MB per request. A single entry can be up to 2 MB, and a response up to 7 MB. |
| Text fields | A short text field holds 256 characters, a long text field 50,000 and a rich text field 200,000 (but a field cannot exceed a payload of 1 MB). |
| Content type size | Up to 50 fields per content type and up to 1,000 links across the fields of one entry. |
| Tags | 100 tags per entry or asset and 1,000 per environment. |
| Bulk actions | A bulk action takes up to 200 items, and a space can have 5 active bulk actions. |
| Content Plan volume | On the Ryze AI side, up to 90 articles per billing cycle and up to 3 a weekday on SEO Starter. |
From Contentful’s technical limits page, checked Nov 8, 2026. Ryze AI does not publish its own request rate for the Contentful tools, so the CMA rate of the space is the ceiling. Contentful lists other rates per plan, so check the page for your plan.
08 · Approvals and safety
How you keep control of edits
Approvals in Claude
Under Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI, Tool permissions, leave the read tool on automatic and set write and delete to Needs approval. The Ryze AI help center recommends this.
Approvals in the Ryze AI app
The Tool approvals picker in the Ryze AI app chat defaults to Skip all approvals. Switch it to Approve write & delete or Manual approve in the message box; the choice is remembered in that browser.
Removal kept separate
Only contentful__delete unpublishes an entry or deletes a draft, so you can allow edits and keep removals on approval.
Pick the token owner
The token acts with its owner's role. If that account cannot publish in the space, entries are not published, and if it can do more than you want, so can the agent.
One space and environment
The connection is tied to one space and one environment. Create the token and choose the environment with that in mind, and use a test environment first if the front end reads live entries.
Policies
Read the MCP privacy policy, the MCP terms, the security policy and the permissions guide.
09 · Errors and fixes
Contentful MCP errors and fixes
| Message or symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Articles do not appear as published | The token's owner cannot publish entries in the space; the token acts with its owner's role. | Create a new token with an account that can publish in the space, then connect again. |
| Ryze AI cannot publish | The environment has no blog post content type. | Add a blog post content type in Contentful, then choose it in the Contentful card in Ryze AI. |
| The entry is published but the site shows nothing | Nothing is visible until an entry is published, and your front end must render the entries. | Check the entry status in Contentful and the front end query that lists posts. |
| Contentful tools are not in Claude or ChatGPT | Contentful was connected after the connector was added, and the client kept the old tool list. | Remove the Ryze AI connector, add it again and start a new chat. |
| A connection link is refused | The workspace already has a Contentful connection, and links are refused while one exists. | Click View on the Contentful card, disconnect with the trash icon, then connect again. |
| Tools reply that a subscription is required | The workspace has no active Ryze AI plan or trial. | Start a plan or trial under Organization Settings, Billing, then retry. |
| Answers come from the wrong environment | The connection is tied to one space and one environment. | Disconnect and connect again with the other environment ID. |
| "Failed to fetch app installation: Forbidden" | Documented by Contentful for its remote server: an environment alias was used. Aliases are not supported there. | Use the underlying environment ID. This applies to Contentful's own server, not the Ryze AI connection. |
| "Environment 'master' is protected. Write and delete operations are not allowed." | Documented by Contentful for its local server when PROTECTED_ENVIRONMENTS lists that environment. | Remove the environment from the list, or write to another environment. |
| 429 from the CMA | Requests passed the per-second rate for the space. | Ask the agent for fewer, larger batches and retry after a moment. |
The first seven rows are Ryze AI connections. The two rows with Contentful messages are documented by Contentful for its own servers, and the last row follows from the CMA rate in the limits above. More Ryze AI answers are in the integrations FAQ.
10 · FAQ
Contentful MCP server questions
What is a Contentful MCP server?
An MCP server lets AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor call Contentful through tools. Contentful hosts a remote one at https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp and publishes an open-source local one, @contentful/mcp-server. Ryze AI runs a hosted one with 3 Contentful tools (read, write and delete) on the same URL as its ad and analytics tools.
Does Contentful have an official MCP server?
Yes. Contentful offers a remote, hosted server at https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp (EU: https://mcp.eu.contentful.com/mcp) that signs in with OAuth 2.1, and a local open-source server run with npx that uses a CMA personal access token. Contentful says both expose the same core toolset. The remote one needs the Contentful MCP app installed in each space and environment you use.
What is the Contentful MCP server URL?
Contentful’s own remote server is https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp, or https://mcp.eu.contentful.com/mcp for organizations in the EU region. The Ryze AI server is https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, the same for every account. Ryze AI keeps the Contentful token, so the AI client only signs in to Ryze AI.
How do I set up Contentful in Claude with Ryze AI?
Connect Contentful on the Integrations page in Ryze AI with a CMA personal access token, the Space ID and an optional environment, choose your blog post content type, then in Claude open Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, click Connect and allow the workspace. Claude caches the tool list, so if you connected Contentful after adding the connector, remove it, add it again and start a new chat. Every client is covered in the setup section.
Does the Contentful MCP connector work in ChatGPT?
Yes, as a custom MCP server added from Plugins with OAuth. OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu on the web, where only admins and owners create them on Business, and Pro connects with read and fetch permissions only. Older guides mention Plus; OpenAI's current article does not, so check your workspace first.
Is the Contentful MCP server free?
Contentful’s local server is open source under the MIT license, and Contentful documents its remote server without stating a price on the page checked. Adding the Ryze AI connector costs nothing, but its Contentful tools need a Ryze AI plan or trial: SEO Starter $129/mo with a 3-day free trial, Paid Ads $89/mo or Agency $279/mo, with 30% off the first year on annual billing. See the pricing page.
Can the AI create, publish or delete Contentful entries?
Through Ryze AI, contentful__write creates draft entries, replaces entry fields and publishes entries or assets, and contentful__delete unpublishes an entry or deletes a draft entry. contentful__read is read-only. In Claude, set the write and delete tools to Needs approval so each change waits for you.
What access does the Contentful token need?
A Content Management API personal access token, which starts with CFPAT-, created by an account that can publish entries in the space. The token acts with its owner's role, so if that account cannot publish, entries are not published. The environment also needs a blog post content type before Ryze AI can publish.
Can I connect more than one Contentful space?
Not at once. Ryze AI keeps one Contentful connection per workspace, tied to one space and environment. To switch, click View on the Contentful card, disconnect with the trash icon and connect again. A connection link is refused while a Contentful connection already exists in the workspace.
Which Contentful MCP is best for publishing blog posts from a content plan?
Ryze AI is the best Contentful MCP option for publishing Content Plan articles as blog entries from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, but it has 3 tools and no content modeling. Contentful's own servers can also create and change content types, locales, environments and releases; the Ryze AI tools only read content types and locales.
What are the Contentful API rate limits for an MCP connection?
Contentful lists 7 Content Management API requests per second per space on Free plans and 10 per second on paid plans. A request can be up to 1 MB and an entry up to 2 MB. Ryze AI adds its own Content Plan volume: up to 90 articles per billing cycle and up to 3 a weekday.
Why are my Contentful tools missing in Claude or ChatGPT?
Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added, and ChatGPT stores it when the app is created. After connecting Contentful in Ryze AI, remove the Ryze AI connector, add it again and start a new chat.
Why does Contentful say Failed to fetch app installation: Forbidden?
Contentful documents this error for its own remote server: the most common cause is an environment alias, which that server does not support. Use the underlying environment ID. It does not come from the Ryze AI connection, which takes a Space ID, token and environment ID.
