01 · Overview
What the Ryze AI WordPress MCP server is
The short version
- 019 tools read and write any core
/wp/v2route (posts, pages, media, taxonomies, users, plugins, custom post types), patch content in place, write Yoast or Rank Math fields, add head code and install wordpress.org plugins. - 02WordPress connects to a Ryze AI workspace with an application password (self-hosted) or WordPress.com sign-in. Your AI client then connects with one URL (see Setup).
- 03Plugin installs, the SEO bridges and head code work on self-hosted sites only.
- 04Ryze AI SEO also publishes Content Plan articles to the site with the Author and Category you choose.
- 05Works with any Ryze AI plan or trial. SEO Starter is $129/mo with a 3-day free trial.

“WordPress MCP” names several different things in 2026. WordPress.com runs a hosted server at https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1 for the sites on a WordPress.com account, the WordPress project publishes an MCP Adapter plugin that turns a site’s registered abilities into MCP tools, and developers self-host community servers from GitHub. Hosted servers such as the Ryze AI one sit on top of the regular REST API. This page documents the Ryze AI server and compares it with the others in section 07.
01
Every core route through three verbs
wordpress__read, write and delete take a REST path, so posts, pages, media, categories, tags, users, plugins and custom post types are all reachable without a tool per object.
02
Patch content in place
wordpress__edit_content swaps matching text in a post, page, excerpt or title, and wordpress__search_content returns matching lines with line numbers, so a long post is not resent for a one-word fix.
03
Yoast and Rank Math fields
After a one-time bridge on a self-hosted site, the SEO title, meta description, canonical and focus keyword fields become writable through the REST API, in bulk if you ask.
04
Head code
wordpress__addHeadCode adds HTML inside the head of every page on a self-hosted site, for tracking snippets, pixels and verification tags.
05
Plugins from wordpress.org
wordpress__installPlugin installs and activates a directory plugin on a self-hosted site. Its description tells the agent to ask before installing anything you did not request.
06
Two ways to sign in
A self-hosted site uses its URL, an admin username and an application password. A WordPress.com or Jetpack site uses one-click WordPress.com sign-in.
07
Several sites in a workspace
Add one more account connects another site. The primary site answers by default and the live tools accept a connection_id to target a specific one.
08
Articles with your Author and Category
Ryze AI SEO publishes Content Plan articles to the site as posts, with the Author and Category you pick under View on the WordPress card.
02 · Tool reference
Nine WordPress tools
Every tool takes an optional connection_id to target one site when a workspace holds several, and workspace when your client connection covers more than one Ryze AI workspace. The three core tools take a REST path, for example /wp/v2/posts or /wp/v2/pages.
| Tool | Access | What it does | Inputs |
|---|---|---|---|
wordpress__read | read | Read-only GET request to the connected site's REST API: posts, pages, media, categories, tags, users, plugins and custom post types. | workspace · connection_id · REST path |
wordpress__write | write | POST, PUT or PATCH request that creates or updates a resource, such as a new post or an edited page. | workspace · connection_id · REST path · request body |
wordpress__delete | delete | DELETE request, for example to delete a post. | workspace · connection_id · REST path |
wordpress__edit_content | write | Find-and-replace edits to a text field such as post content, an excerpt or a title, written back without resending the whole content. | workspace · connection_id · the post or page and its text field · the replacements |
wordpress__search_content | read | Searches a text field such as a post's raw content and returns matching lines with line numbers and context. | workspace · connection_id · the post or page and its text field · the search text |
wordpress__installPlugin | write | Installs and activates a plugin from the wordpress.org directory. Self-hosted sites only; an administrator login is needed. | workspace · connection_id · the plugin |
wordpress__enableYoastRestBridge | write | One-time setup on a self-hosted Yoast SEO site: makes the Yoast title, meta description, focus keyword, canonical and noindex fields writable through the REST API, using a Code Snippets plugin snippet. | workspace · connection_id · installIfMissing (default false) |
wordpress__enableRankMathRestBridge | write | One-time setup on a self-hosted Rank Math site: makes the Rank Math title, description, canonical URL and focus keyword fields writable through the REST API, using a Code Snippets plugin snippet. | workspace · connection_id · installIfMissing (default false) |
wordpress__addHeadCode | write | Adds a block of HTML inside the head of every page on a self-hosted site (tracking snippets, pixels, verification tags) through a Code Snippets plugin snippet. | workspace · connection_id · the HTML · installIfMissing (default false) |
Which tools are self-hosted only
| wordpress__installPlugin | Plugin installs work on self-hosted sites. Only wordpress.org directory plugins can be installed, not zip files or URLs. |
| wordpress__enableYoastRestBridge | Self-hosted only. On WordPress.com, edit Yoast fields in wp-admin. |
| wordpress__enableRankMathRestBridge | Self-hosted only. On WordPress.com, edit Rank Math fields in wp-admin. |
| wordpress__addHeadCode | Self-hosted only. |
The five remaining tools (read, write, delete, edit_content, search_content) work on both site types, but a WordPress.com connection reaches only the core /wp/v2 routes. Ad and analytics tools on the same URL are documented on Google Ads MCP, Meta Ads MCP and Google Analytics MCP.
03 · SEO plugins
Yoast and Rank Math: one bridge, then bulk meta fields
WordPress does not let a plain REST request write SEO plugin fields, so a write that skips the bridge appears to succeed and saves nothing. The bridge is a small Code Snippets plugin snippet that registers those fields for the REST API. It is set up once per self-hosted site.
| Before the bridge | Yoast documents its own REST API as read-only: it adds yoast_head and yoast_head_json fields to posts and a get_head endpoint, with no POST or PUT. Fields sent to core routes without the bridge are silently dropped by WordPress. |
| Run the bridge once | Ask the agent to enable the Yoast or Rank Math bridge. Both tools default to installIfMissing false and need your explicit yes in chat before the Code Snippets plugin is installed. An administrator user is required. |
| After the bridge | The agent can write the SEO title, meta description, canonical and focus keyword (Yoast also exposes noindex) on posts and pages, and read them back to check. |
| Bulk work | Ask for a read of the posts first, a list of the ones with a missing or over-long description, then writes on approval. Each write is one tool call, so hold write tools on Needs approval until the first batch looks right. |
Yoast REST API statement from developer.yoast.com, checked Nov 8, 2026. On WordPress.com connections the bridge tools do not run, so edit those fields in wp-admin.
04 · Use cases
Publishing flow and example prompts
Ryze AI SEO publishes Content Plan articles to the connected site as posts. Publishing mode under SEO, Preferences, Publishing is Automatic by default or Manual. The Author and Category come from View on the WordPress card. Chat prompts do the work around that flow: fixing existing posts, writing SEO fields and housekeeping.
- “List my 10 newest posts with their status, author and categories. Do not change anything.”
- “Find every post whose content still says 'Contact us at the old address' and show the matching lines before replacing.”
- “Create a draft post from the text I paste, assign the Guides category and stop before publishing.”
- “Enable the Yoast bridge, then list published pages with no meta description.”
- “Draft meta descriptions for the pages you found and write them only after I approve each one.”
- “Set the canonical URL on these 3 pages to the address I give you.”
- “List installed plugins and tell me which ones are inactive.”
- “Add the verification tag I paste to the head of every page.”
- “Show media items with no alt text and propose alt text for each.”
- “On my second WordPress site, list pages in draft.”
- “Compare the category lists of both connected sites and show names that differ.”
- “Read the pending posts on the staging site and move none of them yet.”
Every answer comes from your own site, so no sample output is shown here. Chat results depend on your content and plugins.
05 · Setup
Connect WordPress once, then add the URL to each client
Step 1: link your WordPress site in Ryze AI
- 01Self-hosted: in WP Admin open Users, Profile, scroll to Application Passwords, enter a name such as Ryze AI, click Add New Application Password and copy it. It is shown once.
- 02In Ryze AI open Integrations, click Connect on the WordPress card and pick the Self-hosted site tab.
- 03Enter the Site URL (https://), the username you sign in to wp-admin with and the application password, then click Continue.
- 04WordPress.com or Jetpack: pick the WordPress.com / Jetpack tab, sign in on WordPress.com, approve access and choose the site if the account has several. For Jetpack sites, turn on the Jetpack JSON API module first.
- 05Optional: click View on the WordPress card to choose the Author and Category new posts use, then click Save. To add another site, click View, then Add one more account.
Screens for each step are in the Ryze AI WordPress guide. A one-time connection link from Claude or ChatGPT opens a page for the site URL, username and application password; it does not offer WordPress.com sign-in.
Claude on the web or desktop
- 01Go to Customize, Connectors.
- 02Choose + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter Ryze AI as the name and
https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcpas the URL, then click Continue and keep the sign-in option, not No sign in. - 03Click Add, then Connect, tick the workspace that holds WordPress and press Allow connection.
- 04Start a fresh chat. Claude keeps the tool list from the moment the connector is added, so if you connect WordPress afterward, remove the connector, add it again and open a new chat.
Custom connectors are available on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise, and Free holds one. On Team an Owner adds the connector under Organization settings, Connectors, and members then click Connect.
ChatGPT
OpenAI documents custom MCP servers as full access on Business and Enterprise/Edu, and read and fetch only on Pro; on Business only admins and owners can create them. Open Plugins, choose the plus button, Add custom MCP server, name it Ryze AI, enter the URL, pick OAuth, create it, then sign in with Ryze AI and allow the workspace. Write tools such as wordpress__write are not available in read-only access, and ChatGPT keeps a snapshot of the tool list, so add the connector again after connecting WordPress.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http ryze https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp --scope userType /mcp, choose ryze and finish sign-in in the browser. --scope user loads it in every project. Scripts can use an API key from Workspace Settings, Profile, API keys, sent as Authorization: Bearer rk_live_....

Grok Bot and other clients
The Ryze AI help center says Ryze AI is listed in Grok Bot under Connect apps: search Ryze AI, Add and sign in. If it is not listed, add the URL as a custom MCP server. Any other client with remote MCP support takes the same URL.
06 · Permissions
Who can connect, and what the login reaches
| Self-hosted login | Site URL (https), the wp-admin username and an application password from Users > Profile > Application Passwords. WordPress introduced application passwords in version 5.6 and they travel as Basic Auth over HTTPS. The password is shown once. |
| WordPress.com or Jetpack | One-click sign-in on WordPress.com, then choose the site if the account has several. For Jetpack sites the Jetpack JSON API module must be enabled. |
| Who needs to be admin | Plugin installs, the Yoast and Rank Math bridges and head code need an administrator user (the activate_plugins capability). Posts and pages follow the capabilities of the user whose application password you used. |
| What the application password reaches | A WordPress application password acts as that user across the REST API. Create it for a dedicated user with the role the job needs, such as Editor for content work. |
Application password details from developer.wordpress.org; Ryze AI steps from the Ryze AI help center, checked Nov 8, 2026.
Removing access
In WP Admin, open Users, Profile and revoke the Ryze AI application password. In Ryze AI, open View on the WordPress card to remove a site. In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI and click Disconnect, which cuts off every workspace at once.

Ryze AI vs WordPress.com’s server and the WordPress MCP Adapter
Four things called WordPress MCP
| Option | Built for | How you connect | Reaches | Changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryze AI hosted server | Marketers and agencies who publish and optimize WordPress content next to ad and analytics data | Application password or WordPress.com sign-in in Ryze AI, then OAuth from the client | Core /wp/v2 routes, plus plugin routes and SEO bridges on self-hosted sites | Create, update, delete, patch text, install plugins, head code |
| WordPress.com MCP server (public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1) | WordPress.com users and Jetpack-connected sites | OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration | Every site on the WordPress.com account | Read and write tools, with a read-only access level |
| WordPress MCP Adapter (official plugin) | Site owners and plugin developers who expose their own abilities | Installed on the site; per-server transport authentication | Whatever abilities the site registers as public | Depends on the registered abilities |
| Community servers on GitHub | Developers who self-host | Varies by repo | Depends on the repo | Depends on the repo |
Sources: developer.wordpress.com MCP docs (updated Oct 22, 2026) and the WordPress MCP Adapter repository, both checked Nov 8, 2026. WordPress.com lists full access, read-only and custom per-tool access levels. Its tool list is on a separate reference page that this page does not reproduce.
The three hosted options side by side
| Ryze AI | WordPress.com MCP | WordPress MCP Adapter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who sets it up | You, in Ryze AI, with an application password or WordPress.com sign-in | You, by adding the WordPress.com server URL to a client | A developer or site admin installs the plugin and registers abilities |
| Site types | Self-hosted, WordPress.com and Jetpack | WordPress.com and self-hosted sites on Jetpack | Self-hosted sites where the plugin is installed |
| Several sites | Yes, in one workspace, with a primary site | One connection reaches every site on the account | One server per site |
| Yoast and Rank Math fields | Through the one-time bridge, self-hosted only | Not documented on the overview page | Only if an ability for them exists |
| Other data in the same chat | Google Ads, Meta Ads, Google Analytics, Search Console, Shopify, HubSpot | WordPress only | WordPress only |
| Price | Any Ryze AI plan or trial. SEO Starter $129/mo, 3-day free trial | Available on every WordPress.com plan, including free sites | Free plugin on wordpress.org |
As published on Nov 8, 2026. These projects change often, so check each tool list before you decide.
Which to pick: if every site lives on WordPress.com and you only need WordPress, its own server needs no extra account. If you run a plugin and want to expose custom abilities, the MCP Adapter is the direct route. Ryze AI fits when you run self-hosted sites and want SEO plugin fields, head code and content fixes in the same chat as Search Console, Google Analytics or ad data.
08 · Limits
WordPress limits an agent runs into
| REST page size | Collections return 10 items by default and at most 100 per page (per_page). The X-WP-Total and X-WP-TotalPages headers say how many records and pages exist, so a large site takes several reads. |
| Post statuses | publish, future, draft, pending and private. A delete without force sends a post to the trash; force true removes it permanently. |
| Application passwords | Need HTTPS and WordPress 5.6 or newer. A site or host can switch them off, which blocks the self-hosted connection. |
| WordPress.com connections | Reach only the core /wp/v2 routes. Plugin routes such as /yoast/v1 need a self-hosted connection. |
| Yoast and Rank Math without the bridge | Fields sent through the plain REST API are silently dropped by WordPress. |
| Elementor | Page text is reachable only where the post type exposes meta._elementor_data; otherwise edit it in wp-admin. |
| robots.txt | Outside what the agent can change. Technical Audit gives step-by-step instructions instead. |
| Plugin installs | Installing a plugin can crash a WordPress site, and the tool descriptions say so. Back up first and keep the tool on approval. |
| Security layers | A security plugin, WAF or host that blocks /wp-json stops the connection until requests are allowlisted. Rate limits depend on your host and plugins; WordPress core sets none. |
| Client plans | Claude: custom connectors on every plan, one on Free. ChatGPT: Business and Enterprise/Edu for full custom MCP, Pro read and fetch only. |

09 · Approvals and safety
How you keep control of edits
Approvals in Claude
Under Customize, Connectors, Ryze AI, Tool permissions, leave the read tools on automatic and set write and delete to Needs approval. Claude then shows each change and waits.
Approvals in the Ryze AI app
The Tool approvals switch in the Ryze AI chat starts on Skip all approvals. Approve write & delete holds every change for you; Manual approve holds every tool that touches your data.
Setup tools ask first
The Yoast bridge, Rank Math bridge and head-code tools default to installIfMissing false and need your explicit yes in chat before the Code Snippets plugin is installed. The plugin tool is told to ask before installing anything you did not request.
Back up before plugin installs
A plugin install can crash a WordPress site. Take a backup, and keep installPlugin on Needs approval.
Publishing mode
Content Plan articles follow Publishing mode under SEO, Preferences, Publishing: Automatic (default) or Manual.
Policies
Read the MCP privacy policy, the MCP terms, the security policy and the permissions guide.
10 · Errors and fixes
WordPress connection problems and fixes
| Message or symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Connection fails or times out on a self-hosted site | Cloudflare, Wordfence or the host firewall is blocking requests to /wp-json. | Allowlist requests whose user agent contains RyzeBot, or turn off bot protection for /wp-json, then connect again. |
| Credentials rejected | Wrong username, a lost application password or a typo in the Site URL. | Generate a new application password (it shows once) and enter the https:// Site URL. |
| Jetpack site will not connect | The Jetpack JSON API module is off. | Turn on the Jetpack JSON API module, then sign in with WordPress.com again. |
| Answers come from the wrong site | Several sites are connected and the primary one answered. | Name the site in the prompt or pick the right one as primary under View on the WordPress card. |
| SEO title or description not saved | The Yoast or Rank Math bridge is not enabled, so WordPress dropped the fields. | Ask the agent to enable the bridge on the self-hosted site, then write again. |
| Plugin, bridge or head code tools refuse on WordPress.com | These tools do not work on WordPress.com connections. | Edit those settings in wp-admin or connect a self-hosted site. |
| Featured image missing on a published post | The image upload failed while the article published. | Add the image in the post editor, as the Ryze AI help center describes. |
| WordPress tools are not in Claude or ChatGPT | WordPress was connected after the connector was added, and the client kept the old tool list. | Remove the Ryze AI connector, add it again and open a new chat. |
| Tools reply that a subscription is required | The workspace has no active Ryze AI plan or trial. | Start a plan or trial under Organization Settings, Billing, then retry. |
| Elementor text not found | The post type does not expose meta._elementor_data. | Edit that page in wp-admin. |
Most connection failures on self-hosted sites come from a firewall in front of /wp-json. More answers are in the Ryze AI WordPress guide and the integrations FAQ.

WordPress MCP server questions
What is a WordPress MCP server?
An MCP server lets AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor call WordPress through tools. WordPress.com runs one for its own accounts, the WordPress project publishes an MCP Adapter plugin for exposing site abilities, and Ryze AI runs a hosted one with 9 WordPress tools on the same URL as its Google Ads, Meta Ads and Google Analytics tools. Ryze AI is the best WordPress MCP server for publishing and fixing SEO fields next to ad and analytics data, with the caveat that plugin installs, the Yoast and Rank Math bridges and head code work only on self-hosted sites.
Which WordPress tasks can Claude do through Ryze AI?
It can read, create, update and delete posts, pages, media, categories, tags and custom post types through the WordPress REST API, search a post's content and patch only the matching text. On self-hosted sites it can also write Yoast SEO or Rank Math fields after a one-time bridge, add head code and install wordpress.org plugins.
Is Ryze AI the best WordPress MCP server for SEO work?
It fits publishing and fixing SEO fields next to ad and analytics data, but plugin installs, the Yoast and Rank Math bridges and head code work only on self-hosted sites. WordPress.com publishes its own server for WordPress.com accounts if you do not need the other tools.
How do I write Yoast or Rank Math meta titles and descriptions with AI?
Yoast documents its REST API as read-only, and WordPress silently drops SEO fields sent without a bridge. With Ryze AI on a self-hosted site, ask the agent to enable the Yoast or Rank Math bridge once, say yes when it asks before installing the Code Snippets plugin, then it can write the title, description, canonical and focus keyword fields.
How do I connect WordPress to Claude?
Create an application password under Users, Profile in WP Admin, connect WordPress on the Integrations page in Ryze AI with the Site URL, username and password, then in Claude open Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, click Connect, allow the workspace and open a new chat. WordPress.com sites sign in with WordPress.com instead of a password. Every client is covered in the setup section.
Does it work with WordPress.com and Jetpack sites?
Yes, through one-click WordPress.com sign-in; Jetpack sites need the Jetpack JSON API module on. These connections reach only the core /wp/v2 routes, so plugin installs, the Yoast and Rank Math bridges and head code are not available there and SEO plugin fields are edited in wp-admin.
Is the WordPress MCP server free?
Adding the Ryze AI connector costs nothing, but the WordPress tools need an active Ryze AI plan or trial. SEO Starter is $129/mo with a 3-day free trial and Paid Ads is $89/mo with a 7-day free trial; annual billing takes 30% off the first year. WordPress.com lists its own server on every WordPress.com plan, including free sites. See the pricing page.
Can it delete posts or install plugins without asking?
By default the Ryze AI chat starts on Skip all approvals, so write and delete tools run without asking. To hold changes, switch it to Approve write & delete, or in Claude set write and delete tools to Needs approval. The bridge and head-code tools default to installIfMissing false and need your explicit yes in chat before a Code Snippets plugin is installed, and the plugin tool is told to ask before installing anything you did not request. A plugin install can still crash a site, so back up first.
Can I connect more than one WordPress site?
Yes. Open View on the WordPress card and click Add one more account. The primary site answers by default, you can name another in chat, and the tools accept a connection_id. An SEO plan covers one website, and the Ryze AI help center does not explain how that rule applies to several sites, so check your plan before you rely on it.
Why does the connection fail with Cloudflare or Wordfence?
A security plugin, firewall or host can block requests to /wp-json. The Ryze AI help center says to allowlist requests whose user agent contains RyzeBot, or turn off bot protection for /wp-json, then connect again.
Does it publish articles from the Ryze AI Content Plan?
Yes. Content Plan articles publish to the connected site as posts, with the Author and Category you choose under View on the WordPress card. Publishing mode under SEO, Preferences, Publishing is Automatic by default or Manual. SEO Starter allows up to 90 articles per billing cycle and up to 3 a weekday.
Can it edit robots.txt or Elementor pages?
It does not edit robots.txt; Technical Audit gives step-by-step instructions for that. Elementor text is reachable only where the post type exposes meta._elementor_data, and is otherwise edited in wp-admin.
