Most of the work happens before Thanksgiving, so campaigns are out of learning when costs peak.
Why Facebook ad costs rise in Q4
CPM rises in November because more advertisers bid for the same people.
Every impression is sold in an auction won on the bid, the estimated action rate and ad quality. When many stores raise bids in the same week, prices rise for everyone.
Bïrch (formerly Revealbot) data on US Facebook campaigns from 2021 to 2023 shows costs spiking from Black Friday and peaking about 40% higher in the holidays, then falling about 20% below the year average in January and February. Compare your niche in Meta ads cost benchmarks by industry.
Demand rises too: Adobe counted $11.8 billion in US online spending on Black Friday 2025, up 9.1% on 2024, and social media drove 3.6% of US online revenue on Cyber Monday 2025.
Example: a 40% CPM rise
With round numbers: at a $20 CPM, a 1% click rate and a 10% conversion rate, 1,000 impressions bring 1 sale for $20. At a $28 CPM with the same rates, that sale costs $28, unless the offer lifts clicks or conversions.
Meta notes that when you optimize for conversions, CPM may not be a good guide, since the system may buy pricier impressions to get cheaper conversions. Judge ads on cost per purchase and ROAS (return on ad spend: revenue divided by ad spend).
When to start: warm-up vs the sale window
Launch sale ad sets in the week of November 16. The deadline comes from Meta's learning phase.
The learning phase is when Meta is still working out who to show a new ad set to, so costs swing. Ad sets usually exit after about 50 results in the week after the last significant edit; too few results shows "Learning limited". Edits that restart learning include:
- Any change to targeting, creative or the optimization event.
- Adding a new ad to the ad set.
- Changing the bid strategy.
- Pausing the ad set for 7 days or longer.
- Large budget or bid changes. Meta's example: $100 to $1,000 may restart learning.
An ad set launched on Black Friday learns through the priciest days. 2 ways around it:
- Start early. An early access offer from about November 19 gives new ad sets a week to learn. Offer types are in Black Friday offer ideas.
- Lean on proven ad sets. If the sale starts November 27, raise budgets on ad sets already out of learning; 1 new sale ad set will still be learning.
Ad review is typically completed within 24 hours but can take longer, so submit sale ads with a scheduled start by about November 23.
Example with round numbers: at a $30 cost per purchase, 50 purchases a week cost $1,500, about $215 a day per ad set. On $100 a day, use 1 sale ad set and expect "Learning limited".
Campaign structure: Advantage+ sales plus retargeting
Most stores need 2 campaigns, sometimes 3.
Advantage+ is Meta's automated setup, where AI picks the audience, placements and budget split. Advantage+ sales campaigns replaced Advantage+ shopping campaigns starting in 2025.
Meta says advertisers using them saw a 9% improvement in cost per conversion on average. It recommends audience segments, which split reports into new, engaged and existing customers; set them up before the sale.
1. Advantage+ sales
- Setup
- Advantage+ budget, audience, placements; all sale ads

- Finds buyers at the lowest cost
- Budget (example)
- About 70%
2. Retargeting
- Setup
- Catalog ads to viewers and cart adders, recent buyers out
- Job
- Brings back warm-up visitors
- Budget (example)
- About 20%
3. Creative test (optional)
- Setup
- 1 small ad set for new ads
- Job
- Tests spares without touching live ad sets
- Budget (example)
- About 10%
| Campaign | Setup | Job | Budget (example) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Advantage+ sales | Advantage+ budget, audience, placements; all sale ads | Finds buyers at the lowest cost | About 70% |
| 2. Retargeting | Catalog ads to viewers and cart adders, recent buyers out | Brings back warm-up visitors | About 20% |
| 3. Creative test (optional) | 1 small ad set for new ads | Tests spares without touching live ad sets | About 10% |

Budgets and bid caps for the sale days
Plan sale-day budgets now and let scheduling raise them.
A daily budget is an average: Meta may spend up to 75% over it on some days, but no more than 7 times it in a week. Budget scheduling raises a budget for set periods, within these limits:
- Daily budgets only.
- Up to 50 high demand periods per campaign or ad set.
- At least 3 hours per period.
- No more than 8 times the daily budget: $800 on a $100 budget.
Example with round numbers: a $100 a day campaign scheduled to $150 on Thanksgiving, $200 on Black Friday, $150 on the weekend and $200 on Cyber Monday, then back to $100. Meta's budget scheduling pages do not say whether these increases restart learning, so keep the steps modest.
Bid strategies on sale days
Highest volume
- On sale days
- Spends the full budget at whatever auctions cost
- Fits when
- Your margin can absorb a higher cost per sale
Highest value
- On sale days
- Spends the budget chasing bigger orders
- Fits when
- AOV (average order value) varies a lot
Cost per result goal
- On sale days
- Aims near your cost goal, may underspend at peak prices
- Fits when
- You know your break-even cost per purchase
ROAS goal
- On sale days
- Aims near your return goal, may underspend
- Fits when
- Revenue per order is tracked reliably
Bid cap
- On sale days
- Caps the bid in every auction, can limit delivery
- Fits when
- You can predict conversion rates well
| Strategy | On sale days | Fits when |
|---|---|---|
| Highest volume | Spends the full budget at whatever auctions cost | Your margin can absorb a higher cost per sale |
| Highest value | Spends the budget chasing bigger orders | AOV (average order value) varies a lot |
| Cost per result goal | Aims near your cost goal, may underspend at peak prices | You know your break-even cost per purchase |
| ROAS goal | Aims near your return goal, may underspend | Revenue per order is tracked reliably |
| Bid cap | Caps the bid in every auction, can limit delivery | You can predict conversion rates well |
Meta recommends 50 to 100 or more weekly conversions for goal-based bidding. Example: a $60 order leaves $30 before ads, so a $24 cost per result goal keeps about $6 per order. More in Meta ads bidding strategies.
Creative refresh cadence for Black Friday
Holiday shoppers see the same ads often in a short week, so creative wears out fast.
On ad sets with 1 creative, Meta shows "Creative limited" when cost per result is above your past ads and "Creative fatigue" at twice as much or more. Its advice: add a materially different ad and keep the original running. With several ads per ad set, watch each ad's cost per purchase.
Adding an ad to a live ad set restarts learning; a new ad set in an Advantage+ campaign budget campaign leaves the others alone. So launch sale creatives together and put spares in a new ad set.

Copy formulas are in Black Friday headline and text templates, and the creative fatigue guide shows how AI spots tired ads.
Retargeting warm shoppers during the sale
Retargeting (ads to people who already engaged) spends on the audience the warm-up built. Keep it in its own campaign.
Meta's retargeting tips for catalog ads (Meta now calls them ads showing product media):
- Target product viewers and cart adders; exclude recent buyers.
- Split by days since the last visit, with an ad set each.
- Extend the retention window to 30 or 90 days if the audience is small.
- Cross-sell related products to people who already bought.
Catalog ads pull prices from your feed. Meta's catalog fields include sale_price, which must be below the full price, and sale_price_effective_date, which sets when it shows. Without the date, the sale price stays until you remove it.
Landing pages must match the ad on offer, price and end date; see the Black Friday landing page guide.
The Meta and FTC rules that matter on Black Friday
3 rules matter most for a product sale: price claims, delivery promises and AI labels.
Meta's special ad categories (housing, employment, financial products and services, social issues, elections or politics) do not cover an ordinary product sale, so targeting stays open.
Former prices and discount claims
The FTC Guides Against Deceptive Pricing (16 CFR 233.1) say a "was" price must be one you openly offered, in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period. Raising a price for a few days to advertise a bigger cut is the FTC's own example of a false bargain.
Meta's prohibited commercial practices policy lists misleading or unreasonable pricing and non-delivery; complaints that persist after warnings can get accounts restricted or disabled.
Delivery promises
"Arrives by Christmas" is a shipping promise. Under the FTC Mail Order Rule you need a reasonable basis for any shipping time you state, or for shipping within 30 days if you state none. If an order will be late, ask the buyer to accept the delay or cancel for a prompt refund.
AI labels
Meta adds an "AI info" label automatically when you use tools such as Image Generation, or when it detects third-party AI through metadata such as C2PA. It sits under "About this ad". In the European Region, California, New York, India and Taiwan you may be able to self-disclose AI use, which puts the label on the ad.
Before launch, check every ad: a real former price, a real end date, a delivery promise you can keep.

Where Ryze AI fits in Black Friday Facebook ads
Ryze AI runs the ads side. It does not choose your offer, set discounts, manage stock, edit checkout or ship orders.
The Paid Ads plan costs $89 a month flat (checked November 2026), never a share of ad spend, with a 7-day free trial, no contract and cancel anytime. It runs AI autopilot on Meta, Google, TikTok and LinkedIn, generates ad creative, analyzes competitors in the Meta Ads Library, supports unlimited ad accounts and connects to Claude.
It proposes budget moves, new creative and pauses; nothing goes live until you approve it. See the AI Meta ads tool, and the Black Friday Google Ads setup for the Google side.
Ryze AI is the best AI tool for Black Friday Facebook ads in 2026, with one caveat: it cannot lower Meta's holiday auction prices, only spend your budget where it converts.

★★★★★The verdict
Black Friday Facebook ads are mostly decided before Thanksgiving: warm up organically, launch sale ad sets a week early, schedule sale-day budgets and keep spares in new ad sets. Judge cost per purchase against your margin and keep every claim true.
