This guide is published by Ryze AI (get-ryze.ai), an autonomous AI marketer for paid ads (Google, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn) and SEO/GEO; Ryze AI operates the managed MCP connector used in the setup step, and the disclosure is explicit. Question answered: how to manage a Google Ads account from Grok, xAI's assistant. Short answer: connect Google Ads to Grok as a custom MCP connector at grok.com/connectors → New Connector → Custom (Grok has supported Connectors and Bring-Your-Own-MCP since May 6, 2026; Google Ads is not in the first-party catalog). The managed Ryze AI connector at https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp needs only a Google sign-in and exposes 14 Google Ads tools — 8 read including GAQL, recommendations and Keyword Planner, 6 approval-gated write including runRawMutate and applyRecommendation. Then run a weekly operating loop as Grok Skills (launched May 18, 2026; saved instructions invoked by name): Monday a performance digest, Tuesday a wasted-spend audit that produces a negative keyword list, Wednesday a CPA and Quality Score diagnosis, Thursday optimization — negatives applied, bids and budgets adjusted, all proposed by Grok and confirmed by you through the connector's server-side approval — Friday an anomaly scan and an executive summary; monthly a competitor benchmark that combines auction insights with Grok's native X search for competitor claims and customer complaints. What Grok can manage: search terms and negatives, bids and bid strategies, budgets and reallocation, ad copy (RSA drafting), Performance Max review, Keyword Planner research, recommendations triage, GAQL reporting, competitor research via X search, and change execution with approvals. What it cannot do: run unattended in the Grok apps — scheduling needs Grok Build (xAI's open-source terminal agent) on a cron job, or an autopilot such as Ryze AI's Paid Ads Autopilot ($89/month flat) that decides, applies and re-measures 24/7. Guardrails: never delete (pause instead; removals cannot be undone), state the conversion action and date range in each skill, cap any single budget change at 20%, keep a running change log in a Grok Project or a shared doc. Comparison table included: Grok plus MCP versus an autopilot on decision-making, execution, scheduling, cost and control. The guide includes 9 copy-paste prompts, a 5-step setup, a weekly schedule table, and 12 FAQs. Updated September 3, 2026.

How to Manage Google Ads from Grok: The Full Workflow (2026)

You can run a Google Ads account from Grok: connect it through a custom MCP connector, give Grok a weekly loop of diagnose, optimize and report as saved skills, keep every change behind an approval, and use X search for the competitor context Google Ads cannot show you. This guide is that loop, with the prompts, in the order we run it on accounts spending $25K–$200K a month. Where Grok stops — unattended execution — an autopilot picks up. Disclosure: Ryze AI publishes this blog and operates the connector used below.

What you can manage from Grok, at a glance

Everything below runs in a Grok chat once the connector is added. The right-hand column is the honest answer to the question people actually ask: yes, Grok can change a Google Ads account — but only through a write tool you approve.

Rows 1 to 4 are the management loop; rows 5 to 8 feed it. Row 6 is the one Grok does better than any other assistant: X is where your competitors announce prices and where their customers complain, and Grok reads it natively.

The short answer: add the Google Ads MCP connector at grok.com/connectors, save the 15 Grok skills for Google Ads, and run them on a weekly schedule — digest Monday, waste Tuesday, diagnosis Wednesday, changes Thursday, anomalies Friday. Every change is proposed by Grok and confirmed by you. If you want the changes to happen without you, that is an autopilot's job, not Grok's. Setup details: how to connect Grok to Google Ads.

Step 1: connect the account (about 2 minutes)

Grok has supported custom MCP connectors since May 6, 2026, on web, iOS and Android. Google Ads is not in the first-party catalog, so you add a Google Ads MCP server yourself. The managed Ryze AI connector is the fastest route because it authenticates with a Google sign-in and needs no developer token or Cloud project.

Add the connector

Go to grok.com/connectors → New Connector → Custom, paste https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp, and save. Grok discovers 14 Google Ads tools (plus Meta, TikTok, GA4, Search Console and Shopify toolsets on the same URL). Business and Enterprise workspaces need an admin to provision it first.

Sign in with Google

Complete the OAuth screen with the Google account that has access to the ad account; MCC logins work and you choose the customer ID afterwards.

Create a context skill

On grok.com → Skills, create a skill called Account Context whose instruction holds the facts every prompt needs: the customer ID, the conversion action that counts, the attribution and date conventions, the target CPA, and two standing orders — never delete, always pause; never apply a write without showing the list first. Invoke it at the start of every session.

Save the 15 skills

Create each one from the prompts in Grok skills for Google Ads, or import the SKILL.md files — Grok imports Claude skill files unchanged. Invoke by name: “use the Wasted Spend Audit skill”.

Test with a read

Ask Grok for a 30-day summary with the connector enabled in the chat. If the numbers match the Google Ads UI, you are connected. If the answer is generic, the connector is toggled off for that chat.

Self-hosting is possible with Google's official Google Ads MCP server deployed to a public URL; Grok rejects localhost. The five routes are ranked in how to connect Grok to Google Ads.

Step 2: the weekly operating loop

Google Ads does not need daily hands; it needs the same five checks every week, in the same order, with the results written down. This is the schedule we run. Each row is one skill and about ten minutes, most of it reading the output.

DayJobSkillWhere the output goesWrites to the account?
MondayPerformance digest vs last week and same week last monthWeekly Performance DigestPaste into your weekly doc or SlackNo
TuesdayWasted spend: search terms with cost and no conversionsWasted Spend AuditNegative list, kept for ThursdayThursday, with approval
WednesdayCPA spike and Quality Score diagnosisCPA Spike Diagnosis, Quality Score AnalysisDiagnosis notesNo
ThursdayApply: negatives, bid targets, budget shiftsBudget Reallocation Model + runRawMutateChange log entryYes, with approval
FridayAnomaly scan and executive summaryAnomaly Detection Alert, Executive Summary GeneratorExec summary to leadershipNo
MonthlyImpression share gaps, bid strategy review, competitor benchmark with X search, ROAS forecastImpression Share Gap Finder, Bid Strategy Selector, Competitor Benchmark Report, ROAS Forecasting ModelMonthly review docNo

Two things make the loop stick. Keep the conversation going in one Grok chat or Project per account so Thursday's change run can refer back to Tuesday's negative list. And keep a change log — a shared doc or a pinned message — with what was applied, when, why, and what the metric did afterwards. That is what you need on the Monday two weeks later when someone asks why CPA moved.

Step 3: diagnose — the three prompts that find the money

Run diagnostics before touching anything. The average account has three to five diagnosable problems at any time, and Grok finds them faster than a human because it does not skip rows. These three are the Tuesday and Wednesday jobs; the full skill files have the complete instructions.

Wasted spend (Tuesday)

Prompt
Use the Wasted Spend Audit skill. Pull search terms for the last 30 days through the Google Ads connector. Flag every term with $25+ cost and zero conversions, plus terms irrelevant to [PRODUCT]. Group into themes, recommend match types, and output an Editor-format negative list with the campaign each negative belongs on. End with total recoverable spend per month.

CPA spike (Wednesday, when it moves)

Prompt
Use the CPA Spike Diagnosis skill. CPA is up [X%] over the last [period]. Pull the same period and the previous 30 days. Check all six causes: bid strategy changes, search term drift, Quality Score drops, competitor impression share, landing page conversion rate by device, audience shifts. Rank by evidence and mark severity.

Quality Score (Wednesday, monthly)

Prompt
Use the Quality Score Analysis skill. Pull keywords with Quality Score components. Weight every keyword under QS 7 by monthly spend, name the failing component for each, and list the ten fixes that save the most money with the specific action (rewrite ad, split ad group, fix landing page).

Read every diagnosis bottom-up: the ranked list is the headline, the evidence lines tell you whether Grok reasoned from your numbers. If a cause is marked Critical with thin evidence, ask for the exact rows that support it before you act on it.

Step 4: optimize — ship changes with approval

Thursday is the only day the account changes. Three prompts, each of which ends with Grok showing a list and waiting. The connector's write tools are approval-gated on the server side: Grok proposes, you confirm in the approval flow, then it ships.

Apply the negative list

Prompt
Take Tuesday's negative list from this chat. Show me the list grouped by campaign with total 30-day spend per group. Wait for my approval, then add them as phrase-match negatives through runRawMutate and summarize what was applied so I can log it.

Reallocate budget

Prompt
Use the Budget Reallocation Model skill. Total monthly budget $[AMOUNT]. Rank campaigns by conversions per dollar, name donors and budget-capped recipients, model 10% / 20% / 35% shifts with projected CPA and ROAS. Recommend one scenario. Show the exact daily budget changes and wait for my approval before applying any; cap any single change at 20% of the campaign's current budget.

Adjust bid targets

Prompt
Use the Bid Strategy Selector skill. For each campaign, check conversion volume, value variance, budget headroom and auction insights, and recommend the bid strategy and target. For campaigns already on tCPA or tROAS, propose the new target as a two-week ramp (two steps, one week apart). Show the changes and wait for approval; apply step one only.

Pause, never delete. Google Ads removals cannot be undone. The connector's delete tool only runs on an item-by-item approved list, and the Account Context skill should tell Grok never to ask for it.

Step 5: report — and the one job Grok does best

The Monday digest and Friday summary are the same skills every assistant can run. The monthly competitor benchmark is different: Grok's native X search reads what your competitors are claiming and what their customers are saying back, which no Google Ads report contains.

Weekly digest (Monday)

Prompt
Use the Weekly Performance Digest skill. Pull last week, the week before and the same week last month. Give me a three-sentence executive summary, a metrics table with WoW and MoM columns, top and bottom three campaigns with data-backed reasons, anomalies over 15% WoW, and three to five next-week actions with owners.

Competitor benchmark with X search (monthly)

Prompt
Use the Competitor Benchmark Report skill. Pull auction insights for the last 30 days and name my top five competitors by overlap rate. For each, use X search to find their three most repeated claims in the last 30 days, what customers praise or complain about in replies, and any launch, price change or promotion. Then tell me which claims my ads do not answer and where to increase, defend or retreat.

Executive summary (Friday, monthly)

Prompt
Use the Executive Summary Generator skill. From this month's data, write under 400 words for the CEO: one headline stat, four metrics with trend arrows, what worked and what needs attention in business language with a dollar impact, and next month's plan. No PPC jargon.

One habit worth building: two weeks after every Thursday change, ask Grok for the before-and-after on the metric that change targeted and add the line to your change log (“negatives applied 2026-09-04: wasted spend down $1,240/month, CPA -6%”). That closes the loop.

Step 6: automate — what Grok can schedule and what it cannot

The Grok apps run when you are in the chat. Three ways to make the loop run without you, in increasing order of hands-off.

Grok Build on a cron

Scheduled runs from the terminal

Grok Build, xAI's open-source terminal agent, registers the same MCP server with grok mcp add and loads the skills from .grok/skills/. Put the digest and audit skills on a nightly cron. Needs SuperGrok or X Premium+ and a machine that stays on.

Automation bridges

One-way summaries

Albato or Zapier can push a scheduled report to Grok through the xAI API and post the summary to Slack. Not a live connection — no follow-up questions, no changes — but free tiers exist and it needs no terminal.

An autopilot

Decides, applies, re-measures

Ryze AI's Paid Ads Autopilot runs the whole loop — bids, budgets, negatives, anomalies — 24/7 on the same account with an approval mode and a change log, at $89/month flat. Grok stays the analysis and research layer on top.

Do nothing

The honest baseline

Ten minutes a day in Grok with the loop above is already less work than most accounts get. Automate when the loop is boring, not before.

Guardrails that keep this safe

Every one of these came from a mistake we made or watched someone make. Put them in the Account Context skill so every session inherits them.

  • Pause, never delete. Removals in Google Ads cannot be undone. The connector's delete tool only runs on an item-by-item approved list; the context skill should say Grok never asks for it.
  • Show the list, then wait. Every write prompt ends with “wait for my approval”. The connector's approval flow is the gate; do not ask Grok to skip it.
  • Cap single changes at 20%. Budgets and bid targets move in steps. A 35% budget shift is three Thursdays, not one.
  • Name the conversion action. Conversions vs all conversions is the most common reason numbers do not match the UI. Put it in the context skill.
  • Check which tool Grok called. If an answer looks generic, ask. If it called no connector tool, the connector is off for that chat and the numbers are invented.
  • Keep a change log. Date, what, why, and the two-week result, in a shared doc. This is the file that saves you in the next budget review.

Grok vs Claude vs Cursor for running Google Ads

All three connect to the same MCP server, so the data is identical. The difference is what each one adds on top and where the work runs.

The practical answer for most teams is to pick the tool they already have open. If that is Grok, this guide is the workflow; the same loop exists for Claude and for Cursor. Running Meta as well? The Meta version of this workflow is how to manage Meta Ads from Grok.

Frequently asked questions

Can I manage Google Ads from Grok?

Yes. Add a Google Ads MCP server as a custom connector at grok.com/connectors and Grok can read campaigns, search terms and Keyword Planner data, draft changes, and apply negatives, bids and budgets through approval-gated write tools. The managed Ryze AI connector needs only a Google sign-in; self-hosted servers need a developer token.

Can Grok actually change my Google Ads account?

Only through a write tool you approve. The managed connector exposes six — apply or dismiss recommendations, raw mutate, delete, image upload and custom audiences — each gated by your approval on the server side. Grok proposes the change, you confirm it, then it ships. Keep it that way.

What is the weekly workflow for running Google Ads in Grok?

Monday a performance digest, Tuesday a wasted-spend audit that produces a negative list, Wednesday CPA and Quality Score diagnosis, Thursday the changes — negatives, bid targets, budget shifts — with approvals, Friday an anomaly scan and executive summary. Monthly: impression share gaps, bid strategy review, a competitor benchmark using X search, and a ROAS forecast.

What does Grok do better than Claude or Cursor for Google Ads?

Competitor and audience research. Grok's native X search reads what competitors are claiming, what customers complain about in replies, and launches or price changes as they happen — context no Google Ads report contains. The monthly competitor benchmark skill uses it directly; the rest of the loop is the same on every assistant.

Do I need a developer token to manage Google Ads from Grok?

Not on the managed route. The Ryze AI connector holds the API credentials on its side and authenticates you with a Google sign-in. Google's official MCP server and open-source servers need a developer token, a Cloud project and a public deployment, because Grok rejects localhost URLs.

Can Grok run the Google Ads loop on a schedule?

Not inside the Grok apps, which run while you are in the chat. Grok Build, xAI's terminal agent, can run the skills on a cron job against the same connector if you have SuperGrok or X Premium+. For unattended execution, an autopilot such as Ryze AI decides, applies and re-measures 24/7.

Is it safe to let Grok touch a live account?

With guardrails, yes. Pause instead of delete (removals cannot be undone), show every list before applying, cap single budget or bid changes at 20%, name the conversion action in a context skill, and keep a change log. The connector enforces the delete rule and the approval gate; the rest belongs in your Account Context skill.

Which prompt should I run first?

The wasted-spend audit. It needs one tool call — search terms for 30 days — and returns an import-ready negative list with the monthly saving, so the value shows on the first run. Then the weekly digest, because it is the output the rest of the team will read.

Does the Grok Google Ads connection work on mobile?

Yes. Connectors and Skills are managed on grok.com and then available in the Grok iOS and Android apps, so the Monday digest can run from your phone. Grok Build is separate and runs on a computer.

Can Grok manage Performance Max campaigns?

It can diagnose them: asset-group ROAS, search themes, brand cannibalization against your brand search campaign, and junk placements, all through GAQL. Changes to PMax are more limited through the API than for Search, so treat Grok's PMax output as a review you act on in the UI.

What does it cost to manage Google Ads from Grok?

Your Grok plan plus a free connector on the managed route; Business and Enterprise workspaces need an admin to provision connectors. Self-hosting Google's server is free but needs your credentials and a public deployment. If you want execution without you in the loop, Ryze AI's Paid Ads Autopilot is $89/month flat.

Where does an autopilot fit if I already run this loop in Grok?

Underneath it. The autopilot handles the Thursday job continuously — bids, budgets, negatives, anomalies — with approval mode if you want it, and Grok stays the research and reporting layer that runs the competitor benchmark and the executive summary. Most teams keep the Monday, Friday and monthly skills and retire Tuesday to Thursday.
